Problems start from managers that are no leaders

Angestellte/r oder Arbeiter/inHat zum Zeitpunkt der Bewertung im Bereich Vertrieb / Verkauf gearbeitet.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

The atmosphere has been in decline for months - it shows that employees have been neglected for too long

Kommunikation

The all-hands meetings don't address the real problems.
Problems are being downplayed or not even mentioned by management - "everything is fine"

Kollegenzusammenhalt

The best part of the company are the great colleagues

Work-Life-Balance

High pressure caused by capacity issues, not a new topic which has been ignored for a long time from what I heard

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Multiple people in top management just act straight up inappropriately - if they were in any other position, they would not be part of the company anymore.
Additionally, managers talk bad about people who left the company.
Some people got into power positions because they are good with top managers, not because of the right qualifications

Interessante Aufgaben

Changing job titles but not responsibilities; or simply add more tasks for same compensation

Gleichberechtigung

No transparency from the company side, or "everything is fine", but when talking to colleagues it seems there are inequalities

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

Guilt-tripping and emotionally pressuring longer serving employees into positions that are worse than what they deserve and are qualified for

Arbeitsbedingungen

Good laptops

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

Good efforts and initiatives

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

Very low overall compensation package, but middle management becomes puppets of top management to repeat that it is fair and "competitive". Some adjustments were granted recently, but still below market average because of all-in contacts, the bonuses etc. do not really make sense when you think longer term

Image

Top management thinks everything is great, while everyone below is demotivated and knows how bad things are going

Karriere/Weiterbildung

External hires for higher positions, internally only rarely actual promotions.

Sabine PastHead of HR

Dear smecie,

Thank you very much for taking the time to review smec as your employer. We certainly appreciate every opportunity that enables us to improve. However with your “assessment”, this seems a bit challenging as wide parts of your claims are very generalistic, unspecific, and on several occasions as we find - simply not truthful.

Up front - it's great that you see your colleagues in such a positive light because we as a company also take a lot of effort to promote and support team spirit.

What exactly led to your assessment regarding your supervisor is hard to figure out as we lack specific information. Lastly because of the anonymity of your statement, it will be nearly impossible for us to get to the bottom of things.

However some of the statements we strongly dismiss are:

(a) External hires for higher positions - not truthful - We have a strong commitment to developing our people even on an individual level be it methodical skills, leadership, and other meaningful topics. The majority of our management positions are hired internally: In the last 6 months, 8 colleagues have been internally promoted to new leadership positions. Only when the specific skill set or level of experience is not available but necessary to make a strategic leap do we recruit externally.

(b) Salaries - not truthful - Salaries at smec are well within the usual market salary ranges: 87% (of 111 ratings on kununu) consider the salary to be good or very good at smec.

(c) All hands meetings and communication - not truthful - On every bi-weekly company all hands, Monday morning, we offer the opportunity to every team member to raise questions then be answered by our Executives and Management. Then take our Quarterly Business Review here at smec which we survey closely - more than 90% are looking forward to the next QBR.

Nevertheless, we hope things change for the better for you soon and of course, we are happy to offer you an open conversation in person - pointing at our open door policy - any time. This way we can pursue a path of solution-oriented communication and attitude - which in the end allows us all to improve for the better.

Best regards
Sabine
