Over the past year or so the company started to get rid of employees (long time ones mostly) with shocking regularity. People are dismissed at a moment's notice on the smallest of charges against them. This practice is really unworthy of a Swiss company that prides itself on being the best in the industry. I would expect that from an American company where it is known practice to fire people on the spot. What I find jaw-droppingly stupid with this is that Holcim is willing to lose so much know-how that has been acquired over 10, 15, 20 or more years and cannot be replaced by new people. Instead of using this know-how to forge ahead and use these experiences to the fullest advantage of the company and the new direction it is taking, people's accounts get closed the second they are dismissed, therefore losing the company an incredible amount of accumulated knowledge.
Trust your employees and let them do their job
Promote people to managing positions with people skills who can be inspring leaders instead of being micro managers
It used to be fun to work for Holcim but the office climate is now quite often very tense and guarded due to the management's obvious distrust in their employees
Might still be good when looking at it from the outside but a company is only as good as its employees and all the talk of "our people are our best assets" does not hide the fact that there is a lot of frustration among the employees
There is a lot of talk about the importance of work-life-balance but in reality it is not true, or only for those employees who have he management's trust. There seem to be different rules for different people within the various offices

There are a lot of uninspiring, not to say mean managers at Holcim. Unfortunately the people who get promoted to managing positions (at every level) are not always the best qualified to lead people. They might be good in their areas of experience but are mostly unfit to lead people. A good manager inspires his/her team to do their best work for the company. Managers these days tend to loose themselves in micromanaging their positions, i.e. instead of letting people get on with their work they try to control every little aspect of the jobs that need to be done and so create an area of mistrust and demotivation.
Again, Holcim used to be a great company to work for but with all the changes in employees (out with the old, in with the new) it has become a company I would not recommend to work for

Fear is the major motivating factor. Well, after 4-5 unsuccessful restructurings within few years, I can't blame the employees.
Considering the environmental impact and several ethical issues on the part of the top management it is a disaster. Unfortunately, they don't seem to even try to make anything better. Apart of commenting on every bad feedback here and adding some nice ones...
Very much depends on you and how you position yourself. Rules are different in different departments. The official ones no one cares about. In general ok.

from my corporate point of view (I don't have much visibility of the country organizations) the major areas for improvement are: strengthening the people managers and better, more transparent communication
as many other companies too, I believe LH needs to focus on strengthening their people leaders; even more focus on increasing (gender) diversity in all functions
within the corporate HR team I really like the many nationalities and cultures present, the collaborative approach and broad experience of the HR colleagues, which make my daily work experience so much more enjoyable
LH is the global leader in construction materials and solutions. However, outside of the building industry, I believe LH is not very well known as an employer.
I personally really like what LH is doing in terms of enabling the building of houses, streets and other infrastructure for so many people around the globe. That LH is trying to do that all while continuously getting more environmentally-friendly and sustainable, only makes me prouder to be part of these efforts.
I do appreciate the possibility of working from home from time to time to help combine family life and work in the best possible way. LH gives us a lot of flexibility to support that balance. I do feel it is a fair give and take.
As I have not been very long with LH, this is a bit of a tricky one to answer. But considering the size of LH globally and knowing various stories of people who have been in the company for many years in various roles, I do believe that development and growth is very much possible in LH. With regards to on the job development, I am already very happy with all the interesting and challenging work I get.
LH has a history of supporting people and societies with e.g. affordable housing projects. However, producing cement and concrete is not exactly environmentally friendly, but LH is putting enormous efforts into making the business more carbon-neutral and sustainable. Since 2019 we even have a Chief Sustainability Officer in the ExCo, which shows how seriously LH takes the topic. These efforts and numerous initiatives do make me proud to be working for LH.
I felt part of the team from the moment I started at LH and so far never had any bad experiences with any of my colleagues. No matter how busy they are, there is always time and willingness to support others.
I consider myself very lucky with my manager - she is truly supportive, has a lot of experience she is willingly sharing and she involves me in super interesting and challenging projects. What I also appreciate a lot is that she gives me both positive, reinforcing and also constructive feedback that supports my personal growth.
my main work location is in our offices in Zug, which is an extremely practical location close to the train station, shops and restaurants. I am working in Holderbank once a week, which is a lot less practical when it comes to public transport.

I have not experienced any issues whatsoever in that regard. Diversity and Inclusiveness are an important value at LH and I personally believe they are also truly lived and adhered to, even though we can of course still improve in terms of e.g. more gender diversity in the cement plants.
I just love my job! I really enjoy my day to day work and exchange with the business leaders I support as well as the exchange and collaboration with my HR colleagues. And I am very excited about the additional projects we get to work on, as they are adding variety, exposure to very different people and topics and a lot of learning opportunities.

Mehr "visible Leadership" vom Topmanagement würde helfen zu verstehen, wohin sich die Firma weiterentwickeln soll. Mut zu Entscheiden, welche nicht ständig wieder diskutiert und möglichwerweise rückgängig gemacht werden.Einen etwas unverkrapfterer Umgang mit Fehlern.
