Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Easygoing culture, no hard pressure to work long hours. Friendly people. Helpful HR.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Maybe the salary is a bit too low - on the other hand, there is easygoing culture and you don't always have to sit long hours.
More prominent is that partners do not easily collaborate with each other.
I guess the latter is typical for a large consulting company.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

Need more career space for people who like doing their work but don't like to become a sales or people manager.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

It can be relaxed and not always eating up all your personal time. But be prepared to have to produce numerous PowerPoint decks.

Kommunikation

As in every consulting, some employees communicate in a messy way and while some very clearly and structured. Generally, there are quite a few meetings, sometimes too many, sometimes really useless meetings.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Among under and including manager level, there is mutual respect and not much internal competition. Colleagues happily help each other, and there are quite a few groups of friends resulting from workplace. I have not encountered any cases of arrogance.
There are of course very few employees who disregard others, but this is normal for any people company.

Work-Life-Balance

If you do clear planning, manage the expectations, and are able to say no, you will have a work-life balance. Hardly will anybody frown at that or talk behind your back that you work less or are lazy.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

There are decent and calm partners, there are emotional partners as well. There is no general portrait of KPMG managers and partners - if you plan to join KPMG, make sure you talk with your future colleagues, understand their expectations and make sure they clearly understand how you position yourself.

Interessante Aufgaben

The CEO is pushing for innovation, so quite a few partners are thinking out of the box. Not all, of course. Some are a bit lazy in understanding innovation.
It is important to understand that the employee herself plays the key role in her interesting work: if one has an interesting idea and is ready to take ownership and bring the subject further, one may be able to find a manager/director/partner who can support.

Gleichberechtigung

There is even an activity group "Women at KPMG" or something. I experienced no gender problems.

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

Old partners usually either have very strong contacts with Swiss businesses and therefore strong client knowledge - or they retire.

Arbeitsbedingungen

IT is doing a very decent job, they are collaborative and not making excessive hurdles. Facility management is also doing a very decent job. Of course, office space-wise this is not Google, but there is still a lounge and free coffee.

Umwelt-/Sozialbewusstsein

Current building in Binz has no air conditioning (Minergie) thus not extremely comfy in summer.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

KPMG is the lowest payer of Big 4.
Below annual salary +/-10%:
Consultant 80k
Senior Consultant 90k
Assistant Manager 105k + arbitrary bonus (something around 13th salary, may be more may be less)
Manager 120k + bonus
Senior Manager 140k + bonus

Image

It's known for audit, but it also has competent advisory and technology teams!

Karriere/Weiterbildung

As it's still managed by very senior partners who are working since 1980s, they expect you to take on more managerial and sales responsibility as you ascend in your career. There is little option to stay in your grade and focus on your competency for long without being frowned at and discussed at performance management meetings.

Thank you for your detailed feedback. Indeed, KPMG puts great efforts in pushing innovation forward. And yes, with the KPMG Network of Women (KNOW) we are providing a platform for exchange among our female leadership. Thank you also for your suggestions for improvement.

I wish you all the best for your future career. Kind regards, Christian Kehler
