Most importantly train your recruiters (internal of recruitment agencies) on your needs or at least hire recruiters with knowledge of the functions they are recruiting for

- I have interviewed with Roche Basel and Rotkreuz for 3 position in 2 years (2019-20). One position was through a recruitment company.
- Firstly, I have never met recruiters with such few knowledge of the functions they are recruiting for. I have to say that the worst screening interview I ever had with a recruiter was for Roche through a recruitment agency (no understanding of the position on her side). Moreover, the recruiters were extremely junior/ inexperienced in comparison to the level for which they were recruiting. I felt as if they were given a list of tasks and were mandated to tick the boxes on the steps of a recruitment process.
- No question about me as a person or trying to get to know me and the way I work. Personal fit is extremely important as well not only if one can prove on paper if he did all the activities asked in the job posting.
- The interviews with line managers were a bit better, but neither at the level of blue chip, best-in-class type of company. Overall there is a generalized level of mediocrity. For example, on two occasions the managers didn't even read my CV and even admitted that they didn't prepare for the interview.
- Questions were very much focused on what I did exactly in my previous jobs and to prove that I know how to do the respective tasks, as if I were not saying the truth about my past experience and they tried to figure this out. I felt as if I was questioned by the police and not by a potential future line manager.
- I also had to complete assignments prior to the interviews with line managers. I would have found the assignments pertinent and acceptable if the hiring manager themselves would have known at least how to spell common English words.
- One of the positions for which I applied was filled in internally by an intern that was already working for Roche, which I found it very unprofessional given the fact that they were asking for extensive experience (7+ years of experience).
- I've withdrawn myself from the recruitment process for the other two positions, based on the experience I had with the hiring managers during the interviews. It definitely looks to me that they either don't know what they wanted or they are pressured to fulfill I don't know what kind of superhuman requests from higher management.
- Since then I have never applied to any other position with Roche.
