Verbesserungsvorschläge

Being a happy customer of SBB, I must say that applying to a position there has been really disappointing.

The application process starts through their job portal. This is the first source of frustration, because the website doesn't work at all under Safari and in Firefox/Chrome is really difficult and unintuitive to use.

From that point on every communication happens through email. But this is a joke because, instead of writing the message directly on the email, they tell you to read a PDF that is attached.

If I have to take the issues above as a sign of how the company works at IT level, I'm glad they decided to withdraw my application.

The second thing that really bugged me is that they ask you to provide all kinds of paperwork to validate your education and previous employments. While I understand that this is customary in the DACH region, it's also irrelevant for applicants with 10+ years of experience. Moreover, in a country with such a high number of foreign high-skilled workforce is also impractical and unrealistic.

Dear Applicant

Thank you for taking the time to evaluate our application process. We were pleased to receive your feedback and are of course delighted to hear that you are a satisfied SBB customer.

Unfortunately, the application process is a little bit fiddly as you say. We are aware of all the points you raise. Due to the specifications and limitations of our software, we have not yet been able to align the candidate experience with our expectations and requirements. However, we are constantly working on making the application process a positive experience.

While your first taste was admittedly less than ideal, we feel it would be a real shame to let it deter you from applying to SBB or to assume that this is representative of the state of our IT infrastructure. SBB is a leading light in many sectors and has won innovation prizes for numerous applications, for instance for developing its Rail Control System.

As regards the application documents: in Switzerland, the term “complete” application documents actually means a covering letter, CV, employer references and evidence of continuing professional development. Although we would clearly not make a decision about our potential future together as employer and employee based on these documents alone, they nevertheless serve as a “calling card” in the local job market.

We hope that this explanation helps clarify the situation and would be delighted to receive another application from you. We would also like to take this opportunity to wish you pleasant travels at all times and a wonderful customer experience “at home on the move”.

Kind regards,
