Unethical and Obsolete workplace.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

During joining, HR said internal job change is possible if you dont like working in your team, and I tried in other teams after couple of months and somehow this got leaked in my team. In my review this was mentioned to be a big issue even ridiculously writting “dishonest” in my feedback because of this....why? because I was following a HR policy. Either management was clearly contradicting HR policies or HR was mis-educating employees with wrong policy, either one should be true. Disclosing such confidential information is highly unethical. Such environment is highly untrustworthy.
For work, I was given a very old device which was looking like a laptop :D , they said they have ordered a new one but I never received that even after months.
Worth mentioning, I saw a case where a non-european employee came here with family with kid was fired before probabtion, that person and his parterner both left the job in home country to join advantest here. More than a decade experieced person worked for several MNCs in many countries is least likely to have competency issue, may be he was more competant and some didnt liked it. it was horrible even to listen.

Kommunikation

Often times people in Management didn’t seems to be on same page. Communication was mostly via written digital mediums. Very cold team environment, no casual coffee chit chats/breaks etc. I never had a desire to work from office.
Internel processes are rediculously slow, very minor tasks/tickets takes months to entertain.
As part-time work is possible in Advantest, with part-time working HR you may need to wait for days/weeks for minor queries.
After leaving, I was chasing HR even for months for final settlements/Documents. Dont expect any support from HR on personal issues like House search or so which a big issue for expats. I was denied in such case by calling it my personal matter, in fact that is. But there are employer out there who love to entertain such “Personal Matter” for employees.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Mostly very good interaction, and made some good friend there. Also be a bit carefull while discussing thing casually with everyone, a few ego massagers can leak it to make their marks.

Work-Life-Balance

For me it was OK till the time I was there for the short time. But could see people in my team carrying laptop on vacation and working in the evening.
I can’t imagine myself skiing during the day and fixing bugs in the evening from hotel.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Not supportive at all, rather competitive. Most of the times in dictation mode, no freedom to pitch in new ideas, I received innovation as a complaint. Micromanagement is clearly seen. Incharge often seems to be in inferiority complex and competing with team member. Pages are written on your mistakes in the comments, hardly found any words of appreciations.

Interessante Aufgaben

Its the worst part, Not open for new things or ugrades or encourage innovation. I had more interesting and challenging task in school than here.
I remeber when I gave a new idea I was told that “it will be surprising if it works.” , BTW I wasn’t proposing a “unlmited free energy” project there :D

Umgang mit älteren Kollegen

In a technology driven world everyone must be open and encouraged to upgrade. Older employees should be encouraged to add atleast one technical skills every 5 years or some sort of technical orintation which lets them see beyond the walls. Hence they feel less surprised while working with younger employees.
The thing they astonishingly call “innovation” is actually normal development practices those days, which is surprisingly missing there.

For food dependent on cafateria with very limited food options but due to covid restrictions I guess.

Gehalt/Sozialleistungen

Salary is market average, If you get a bit above you will be reminded frequently that advantest is doing huge investment in you.
Many people mentioned in kununu about Job bike and public transport facilities, but be aware its only a small part of total cost which will be paid by Advantest its not like what you receive in welcome kit as freebie.

I went thru the reviews in kununu before joining Advantest , Reviews are so over whelming that kununu link is embeded in employees email signature and I was impressed with that as well, I mean how many employers do I know who include review portal link in signature...none.
But after joining, I soon started believing those reviews to be too good to be genuine.

Karriere/Weiterbildung

I can’t recommend this place for Software Engineers.
Basic use of libraries/Opensources and development tools is discouraged/unknown and I could see the sense of surprise if you get the job done easily with the help of some library, Reaction is actually disappointing.
The theory promoted there “More code means more bugs ” Which actually can be translated to “No code no bug”, isn’t it, Doesn't show a progressive mind-set.
Looking at the people whom I was directly working with and invested long times in the comany, I wasn’t motivated enough to stay in advantest to satisfy educational and future aspirations. I felt like after spending 2 years here I will also become obsolete technical skills wise.
