Gut am Arbeitgeber finde ich

Unfortunately, I have nothing positive to mention in my experience. Perhaps acknowledging that something is inherently wrong within the business model would be a positive start. Perhaps only positive is that all my travel expenses were reimbursed without too much delay.

Schlecht am Arbeitgeber finde ich

No responsibility towards employees, false commitments, hire-and-fire mentality, and lack of accountability just to name a few. I cannot recommend anyone working for this company unless there is a complete overhaul in management practices.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

I would expect more responsibility and professionalism, especially from a company whose sole revenue is based on manpower. I had declined other offers since I already signed the contract with Alten. Being a foreign national on a temporary visa, I had 3 months time to find a new job which may not be enough. I would except the business managers to show responsibility and honesty towards employees, and not make false promises for their own short-term gains. I also found a lack of accountability from the HR really disappointing.

It is a staffing company, so the work culture depends on the client one is assigned to.

Kommunikation

Poor and misleading communication from start to finish. The recruiting HR tried to reschedule the on-site interview 2 hours before the start (when I am already on my way and had taken a leave from work). Then halfway through the recruiting process, I get a call from a new person stating that the previous business manager has left the company and he is taking over. In the final interview where I was eventually given an offer, the person started with how my credentials are excellent and they would be happy to give me an offer without even finding a client first. I was naturally sceptical about this, but I was given verbal assurances that he would most definitely find a client before my joining and that there is nothing to worry. There was a lot of sweet-talking about why it is the best place to work and how they give employees the utmost priority, and why I would be making an excellent decision. Next comes the contract signing part, he actually started by trying to sell me dental and eye insurance that is supposed to "exclusive to employees" and was pretty persuasive. We agreed on a joining date 3 months in future since I thought that would be enough time for them to find a project.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Two weeks after joining I was called for a meeting by the same person I signed the contract with. He said they'd had to let go of me since they have not found a project and is not willing to look any further. When I reminded him of all the assurances given earlier he was quick to shrug them off and put on a combative tone as if I was wrong to bring those up.

Zero social responsibility. Quick to throw employees under the bus as long as it suits their needs.

Below par salary compared to the industry standard. No other benefits were offered except buying 'exclusive' dental and eye insurances from your own pocket.

It was a mistake from my part for not researching the company well enough. I would suggest all prospective applicants and employees gather as much info as possible through social networks and peers. Do not believe in verbal commitments, get everything in writing.

Once again there was a lot of assurances about how they support further education and training, but no concrete options were provided.

The insurance policies you mentioned are benefits we provide to our employees in addition to their normal salary.
As you described, it is, in exceptional cases, possible to hire a candidate based on his or her good qualifications, even though there is no concrete project available. In such cases, the manager is responsible for identifying a suitable project as fast as possible.
