- I think remote opportunity and a more flexible scheduling (especially if your job is not too heavily student-facing) would be worth consideration. There are several other higher education institutions that offer more varied schedules, like 4 10-hour shifts, and you could ensure office coverage by having employees take different days off to accommodate that schedule. But even having the option of working from 7-4 on occasion (for example) would be nice, in order to accommodate family scheduling needs.
ACC really focuses on professional development opportunities for staff, including a leadership academy that employees can go through upon election from their managers. The culture is very friendly and inviting, and there's a lot of inclusion and teamwork throughout the campus. We have all-campus meetings, which often include meals, and provide a good opportunity to meet colleagues you would otherwise not meet. There's true passion for educational growth throughout our leadership team, and it's one of the best places I've worked in my adult life.
They seem pretty closed-minded to the option of more flexible scheduling. Especially in the summer, when faculty are off contract, it would be nice if the other staff had the option to work remotely or have Fridays off (for example). Right now, it's a pretty set and rigid corporate schedule of 8-5, Monday through Friday, all year long (with the exception of Christmas break).
