Verbesserungsvorschläge

  • Campus principals would trust teachers to do their job, support those who need help doing their job, and encourage support amongst staff. Administration personnel would spend 1 day working as a substitute teacher and then would greatly increase sub pay to a competitive rate. Campus administration would avoid punitive actions and increase positive interaction with staff daily.

Pro

The school board is responsible and respectful of needs vs. wants and keeping up with the trends. Superintendent is one of the best in the state. Attempts are made to hire appropriately. Student achievement and wellness is put first.

Contra

Excessive workday trainings keep teachers out of their classrooms and strain substitute resources. Excessive testing stresses students and pulls time away from teaching, and it drains financial resources that could be used for quality teachers/subs.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

  • Get to know all the schools better. Certain district people only visit certain schools and don’t always make it out to all. In order to best serve all students you have to know about all the schools.

Pro

Everyone is really concerned with children’s education and I am never short resources to make it happen. Anything I need to make the environment possible to help kids out is provided without exception really.

Contra

There has to be better communication from management. A lot of times, expectations are not communicated in a timely fashion. I should be informed and consulted on things that will affect my job.

Verbesserungsvorschläge

  • I think the administration sometimes forgets what it’s like to be a teacher, the every day things we go through, and it gives them a false feeling. I think that sometimes it would be very helpful for the ministration to take a week step in a teacher shoes and have to teach for one week using the same regulations and rules that they have apply to us. Maybe just once a year they take one week to try to do it the way we do, I think that would remind them of how much is going around the school and going on in the school. Occasionally we must leave our ivory towers and join the masses to understand what’s going on. Our district is very find of surveys as a way for them to have a chance to hear the teachers voice, but the way the questions are asked on the survey or skewed, and teachers fear that they will not be hard and it will be held against them. Education has a tendency to buy every new project that comes along, every new program and promises to help them. I wish my district would take more time to truly understand whether something is helpful or just the new shiny ball. Things are always changing and sometimes you just got one thing started and now it’s out and there’s a new project in. I also think the technology is not always the answer. Sometimes our districts will buy technology and places everywhere when it’s really not needed and will not be used. It seems like a waste of money. We need a little practicality add it to the enthusiasm

Pro

I have been with AISD for 19 years, it has been a great experience, and has taught me the importance of education. It is also taught me that is important to Communicate and work as a team. Teachers must talk to the administration, so that we can all work together, and administration must listen to the teachers, as well as the parents. In our society, education is the cure-all for everything , But education can’t do it alone, teachers need the support of the community, and administration, and the parents. we all have our parts to play and they’re all very important. Many times, teachers are giving very little respect by community or the media, but every time you touch a life of the students and make a difference, it’s better than a paycheck. Teachers are not driven by the money they are driven by a need to help their community, but sometimes the community let them down. AISD is really trying to fix this gap, and I love that I get to be part of the process.

Contra

I do not like the corporate structure they are trying to force on the districts. Adding lots of middle management, does not seem to help the teachers or the students, we have so little funding the teachers go without raises or actually lose pay because we cannot keep up with inflation. Yet Our districts feels the need to hire highly paid administration. It gives the teacher that the feeling that the administration does not value them as professionals and needs to govern them like children. Too much micromanaging. The corporate structure seems to deals on sales, and the pay structure they’ve incorporated would work if you were allowed or could get bonuses, but you really can’t. We need a management style that will fit the culture of our district
