Wavering morale, though faculty stick together.
Middle management very supportive, upper management understands the classroom because they have been there. President never in education and may not be focused on the needs of the student as much as the rest of us.
Faculty definitely work together, and individual departments work as teams. Just not as much cross-department work going on.
For the most part, depending on position, this is the case.
Has improved tremendously with a full-fledged communications team, but likely to go downhill now that four of them have left the company (three were victims of budget cuts).
Many women in top ranking positions or given opportunities.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
Was good, but upper mgmt recently been known to let people go who were on the brink of retirement.
Karriere / Weiterbildung
Been in my job longer than 10 years and given opportunities to go to conferences, great teacher retreat and seminars and professional devel
Gehalt / Sozialleistungen
Full-time faculty compensated well; part-time not well at all. Staff salaries generally low.
Good, though many offices without windows or good ventilation. Need to re-assess space usage and classroom allocations. However, overall excellent technology and support makes office environment good.
Umwelt- / Sozialbewusstsein
Better in recent years for recycling of paper, bottles and other (e.g., batteries). But not consistent in classrooms, only in common areas. Supposedly newer buildings got LEEDS grant and have bike racks, but no one encouraged to use alternate transportation to get to school/work.
Definitely always supportive of family time and need for recovery if ill or having surgery, etc. Great benefits.
Coming back from some bad news a few years ago and with new president.
- Continue open communications between faculty and administration. Help build staff morale with recognitions in each department on monthly basis, and perks to people for their hard work. Encourage camaraderie and company teamwork with softball, soccer, races, etc.
Ever-changing student population and opportunities for interaction with intelligent, caring faculty.
New focus on finance may detract from our mission to serve students. We can't all do the work of three people by letting go of the folks admin doesn't think we need; those people do a lot to support us! Port City Java has a corner on the food service and it's expensive on faculty and student budgets.
