Career Status: I have just retired as Chief of Police from the City of Latrobe. I have completed 35 years of service.
Very good pay and benefits.
Our City Manager was great to work for. Had to be accountable to him but he never interfered with the police department.
Never had to worry about back up or assistance from any member of the department.
Wrote my own policies and procedures, and was free to direct the department in any positive programs or ventures.
13 Man 2 women Department with very good open lines of communications between all officers and administration.
Of a 13 person department I have hired two females one officer and one civilian Community Service Officer. No problems at all with the working environment. I hired both women 9 years ago when I became Chief of Police.
Umgang mit älteren Kollegen
Most officers judge others on their abilities and work ethic. Police work is very mental and somewhat physical. Older officers are treated with respect due to the ability to survive such a demanding career.
Karriere / Weiterbildung
Advancement is difficult in a small department. Our department consists of Chief, 3 Sergeants, Detective and 9 patrol officers.
Gehalt / Sozialleistungen
I have made a comfortable living for my self and family.
Never a problem.
Umwelt- / Sozialbewusstsein
Depending on the type of incidents you deal with many times dictates you mood.
Police work is very demanding. Shift work and working holidays is a downside.
The Latrobe Police Department is very well liked and respected throughout the area.
- Hire more officers
Coworkers City Manager and the ability to run my department without outside interference.
When politics try to enter in any police related matters.
