- The KDOC and the State need to review policies, procedures, and work to promote a more cohesive work environment. Employee retention is key, and thus far, because of employee safety, pay, and mandatory overtime/extra shifts, many employees leave after a short stay with the department.
In the 7 years I have been employed with the KDOC, I experienced a wide variety of learning experiences, which are definitely positive. The direct supervisors I work with have been fantastic to work with. I enjoy making positive contributions for the lives of the offender population. KDOC does offer a large selection of promotional opportunities. I enjoy 99% percent of my co-workers.
Pay needs increased immediately. In my 7 years with KDOC, there has been one raise in pay for my position. The workload increases every year, but the pay doesn't. I live paycheck to paycheck, and experiencing problems making ends meet. This has to stop.
