  • There should be a stipend for all club sponsors, not only a few.

Pro

It was very rewarding to work in a magnet school where I had the opportunity to work with students who were driven to succeed. There were many opportunities for professional development, including travel stipends to conferences and reimbursement for graduate classes.

Contra

At times, I worked many more hours than I was compensated for.

Arbeitsatmosphäre

The culture of the company is awesome. They celebrate everything. Please are genuinely nice to your face and appear to be very helpful, as long as you aren't their direct coworker.

Vorgesetztenverhalten

Some expectations are not realistic. Not all Directors /Principals are leaders. They are good at operations, but when it comes to dealing with staff issues, keeping down drama, and not giving out employee personal information, they fail.

Kollegenzusammenhalt

Teamwork is good.

Interessante Aufgaben

Depending on the department you have room to work freely. At a school, you do not have freedom to work freely, you do not have freedom to do your work at all. Especially if you work at a school where staff is always absent and the Principal is always missing in action.

Kommunikation

There are televised bi-weekly board meeting open to the public to learn about everything that's going on in the district, including disciplinary actions to high level executives, which seems to be a lot.

Gleichberechtigung

Many men are promoted over women. There are a few men in leadership positions that have a hard time dealing with women in leadership positions. There are a lot of women in leadership positions.

The company is always looking for fresher, younger faces. I worked in a department for almost 20 years and a younger male was promoted over me 4 times in that department. He had only been with us for 2 years.

They offer free classes for career development, ongoing development and also incentives for taking those classes.

Gehalt / Sozialleistungen

Overworked and underpaid. I'm speaking about the office staff. You have to fight for promotions. Raises are negotiated by a union so don't even think about asking for one.

Arbeitsbedingungen

Hostile environment most of the time. Especially at schools and in HR offices

Work-Life-Balance

There's really no pressure to work long hours because they know they must pay you. Any overtime available is usually communicated in advance. They are a family oriented business.

Company portrays fair labor practices and they really try. But if a supervisor doesn't want you there, they know how to legally get you out.

Pro

Free full benefits all all employees. Great prices when adding dependents on vision and dental.

Contra

Some grievances are swept under the rug. Management does not inform new employees of their rights and will use that ignorance against them as scare tactics.

  • I hope that the entire school district would consider completely change the pressure they put on schools regarding test results. Specifically I wish that the primary grades would be focused on instilling a love of learning and not testing students constantly. I also believe that teachers should be paid much higher salaries.

Pro

They offer health insurance and are a part of the Florida FRS system so employees that stay until retirement age, can receive a pension. I love teaching and have had countless experiences teaching my students.

Contra

Excessive testing and pressure to continuously assess students.

  • Salary increases that match cost of living increases. After 12 years in public school teaching, I'm just now earning over $50k and as a single individual I can't afford to buy a home or save much for my future

  • Pay teachers more! We need to be paid more to deal with such poorly behaved students and parents.

Pro

I love my colleagues. I work with an amazing team. Also, working with our very difficult student population feel rewarding. The administration is much more effective this year and they are treating us with care. I feel much korê valued this year.

Contra

The school is not safe and we deserve extra pay for working at a Title I school. Many of the students are disrespectful and the parents are far worse. The school really needs to do a better job of supporting and protecting students.
