Job Description

This specialist role resides in the strategic EMEA focused Pre-Sales team, called the Strategy With Architecture Team (S.W.A.T.) and is responsible for providing technical expertise in VMware’s Network Virtualization & Security solution, known as NSX, in addition, to providing Subject Matter Expertise (SME) in Network Virtualization & Security.

The SWAT’s charter is to enable higher value deals, shorten the sales cycle and increase solution adoption, and will involve close collaboration with the local sales and pre-sales teams, as well as other stakeholders in the organization.


• Present VMware NSX vision and technologies, strategy, and product roadmaps to executives, technical management and technical engineers.

• Maintain deep technical and business knowledge of cloud computing and networking applications, industry directions, and trends.

• Maintain working knowledge of competitive architectures.

• Work collaboratively with local pre-sales and sales teams, product management, technical marketing and engineering during the development, launch and continuing refinement of Network Virtualization & Security products.

• Understand and articulate the impact of Network Virtualization and Security to a customer’s physical IP network, operations and future network and networking security architectures. Requirements

• Translate customer requirements and quantify them to bring back to product management.

• Effectively run NSX Demonstrations and Proof of Concepts (PoCs) onsite or remotely

• Deliver NSX training & workshop sessions

• Qualify and prioritise ‘requests to engage’ to ensure focus and alignment


• 5+ years’ experience in technology related work, including pre-sales systems engineer or customer-facing engineer working on large scale enterprise, federal and service provider environments.

• Hypervisor hands on and architecture experience in at least one of the following: VMware / Xen / KVM.

• Experience or good understanding of any of the following cloud management systems: OpenStack, CloudStack, vCloud Automation Center (vCAC), vCloud Director (vCD)

• Strong understanding datacenter networking fabric topologies and common architectures deployed both Layer 2 and Layer 3 based.

• Understand and be able to demonstrate the following:

o Startup mentality - “whatever it takes”.
o VMware’s Core E.P.I.C2 value (Execution, Passion, Integrity, Customers and Community)

• Social intelligence to see the political dynamics of any customer situation.

• Enthusiastic and charismatic presentation skills.

• Excellent communication skills to different stakeholders, including Network Architects as well as C-level

• Minimum 3-4 year degree in Engineering, Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience.

• Role is based in Germany, but be flexible to travel across EMEA
