27 "basics" to be followed only by the lower level employees. Corporate ignores them all.
Support from management
Can I give this less than one star? In-store management is basically a clique. Most of their time is spent chatting in each other's offices.
It's everyone for themselves.
Freedom to work independently
You basically are on your own.
Nothing is ever shared or communicated. This way the management can play "gotcha!" when you do something wrong.
9 out of 10 managers are men. Enough said. Good ol' boys club.
Attitude towards older colleagues
If you're over 30, don't apply here for a career as age discrimination is rampant.
Less than one star if you are over 30. If you have any college education forget about applying here. Seems only high school graduates will be considered so that pay can be kept on the low end. At this location the store director, 2 assistant directors, HR Manager and most department managers only have a high school diploma.
Overall compensation for your work
Because the company is focused on expanding wages are basically frozen. If any raises for the staff are given they are limited to a 10 cent "high limit".
Office / Work Environment
Very clean and care is taken for facilities upkeep.
Kudo's for recycling.
If you want full-time status you must be open to work days/nights/weekends. No set schedule to be able to plan appointments. Schedules sometimes come out less than 5 days in advance. Can go several months before having a 2 day weekend off. Most requests for time off are ignored.
Most customers think everyone is happy and enjoy working here.
Managers and HR are fond of telling most employees they are replaceable. When they are able to terminate an employee they don't like they hold a "celebration" in the HR office. You never know when you will be called into a managers office to be written up and disciplined.
Restrooms, wide aisles, powered mart-carts. Very friendly and accessible.
Care is taken to meet all OSHA expectations.
Boring, repetitious and routine.
Inclusive / Diverse
Don't even bother speaking up and sharing ideas. Management will not accept any ideas that are not their own.
Suggestions for improvement
- Respect and listen to older, experienced employees. Allow at least one full weekend off a month.
What I like about the company
Clean environment. Clothing allowance.
What I dislike about the company
Discriminatory towards older (over 30) employees. Scheduling is not done fairly since some employees never have to work evenings or late nights. Upper management is condescending to store level employees.
