Company Culture

it is pretty toxic, everyone is in everyone elses personal business. also as employees we are often in the dark about decisions and programs that directly affect us.

Support from management

it doesn't take much

Teamwork

it is encouraged verbally ...

Freedom to work independently

there are layers upon layers of supervision

Internal Communication

very little

Gender Equality

many women work much higher than their skill level

Attitude towards older colleagues

lets old people do things that they are unable to do because of their age. places more weight on time of service than on skill or performance

Career Development

very little advancement opportunity

Overall compensation for your work

i work way above my pay rate

Office / Work Environment

poor ergonomic design, outdated equipment

Environmental Friendliness

lip service and programs but little actual effective practices and policies

Work-Life Balance

flexible schedules, great time off

Company Image

i struggle working in the government, but the NRCS is at least trying to help people even if it isn't very efficient at it

Job Security

usually government positions are ultra stable but i am not a "permanent" employee for bureaucratic reasons

Handicapped Accessibility

no but physical nature of work doesn't allow for handicap employees

Challenging Work

it is super easy

Inclusive / Diverse

gives lip service to diversity but in reality it is only ok to be diverse in approved ways

Suggestions for improvement

  • encourage some of the seasoned employees to retire.

What I like about the company

I have a really good supervisor that recognizes exceptional performance so I have gotten pay raises ahead of schedule.

What I dislike about the company

being government, everything is a process. for example you cant just order supplies you have to find the supplies submit a request, which has to be approved by several supervisors, that request then goes to a business center in timbuktu or who knows where and someone there orders your supplies ... maybe. and everything is like that.

Company Culture

You are not allowed to speak to the client. You can send questions to upstream management. You may or may not get an answer, It may or may not be correct.

Support from management

Management is not involved with the work, their focus is on the next round of layoffs

Teamwork

Typical "in the trenches" feeling. No one cared about us so we cared about each other.

Freedom to work independently

Management wavered between ignorant and apathetic. When questioned about it, their response was "I don't know and I don't care".

Internal Communication

The day previous to massive layoffs, the email from management was how successful we had been in a difficult year.

Gender Equality

not quite an old boys club and they hang on to the one woman on the team.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Very respectful - again, this may be societal. A number of my colleagues were originally from India and there is a completely different attitude towards older workers there.

Career Development

none. No training, no tuition reimbursement. Nothing

Overall compensation for your work

Nothing special. They hire blind. Benefits are ok... based on what the government has [per contract].

Office / Work Environment

Typical office

Environmental Friendliness

A little bit of recycling

Work-Life Balance

You can work from home with minimal requirements. There was no oversight at some offices and overtime was not regulated

Company Image

Greedy, short sighted. The example was an office which was actually working 35-40 hours / week but reporting 75-80.

Job Security

None. You can be terrible or you can be great. There is no assessment of ability. When the executive team wants a bigger bonus, you are gone.

Handicapped Accessibility

It was a government building.

Workplace Safety

Very secured facility - armed guards at the entrances, key locks to enter parking lots. Each floor has keyed entry based on your id + password.

Challenging Work

Challenging only because 22nd Century was not allowed to talk to client. That said, it may have been language related as 22nd is primarily formed of HB1 and naturalized Americans. Very few native English speakers.

Inclusive / Diverse

Very diverse, mostly from the Indian sub-continent

Suggestions for improvement

  • Assess employees and remove bad apples and dead wood.

What I like about the company

cheap labor

What I dislike about the company

uneven skills
