Generally the employees in this setting seem to get a long very well. It really is like a small family.
Support from management
At least in the R&D department, management set overly ambitious goals, and time frames at times. During decision making exercises, I often felt that my opinion was not considered, and that I was simply there as someone for managers to bounce ideas off of.
Also, it should be noted that expectations will change constantly without any notice. It may seem impossible, but I recommend that expectations on projects, decisions and goals be taken in writing, because minds change without notice a lot here.
Colleagues work extremely well together across departments. If someone is having an issue, they know that there is always someone else available and willing to set aside time to help.
Freedom to work independently
Personally, I felt that there was a sort of illusion of autonomy here. I felt like I was told to manage my projects on my own, however management never set aside the time to review my proposed schedule and approve. I was constantly taken from what I was working on to focus on something completely different.
You receive bits and pieces of information. If expectations are expressed, you can not be confident that they will not change without notice.
Attitude towards older colleagues
In my experience with 3Z, I've only worked with 2 "older" colleagues. Unfortunalelly, they did not last very long. I don't think it had anything to do with age though. However, after the second person, there seemed to be a resistance to bringing on older individuals, because there was a perception that they would not take the job as seriously.
I was told that I would be sent to different trainings, however I was only sent to one. After which, I was inundated with projects which left literally no time for my own development.
Also, there is a lack of regard for where you would like your career to go.
Overall compensation for your work
No, you will truly be overworked and under payed here.
Office / Work Environment
This was a challenge for everyone, however it is actively being worked out.
Staying organized is always a challenge here. Leadership tends to move and misplace items, which can become frustrating when you can't find what you need when you need it, and find yourself having to spend time searching for tools in in-opportune times. Also, be sure that you will be blamed for this.
No. Some individuals show concern for this, but this is not part of the culture of 3Z.
You are not pressured to work any harder than anyone else does here.
Despite all of my gripes, I do have a personal pride for 3Z Telecom and the work that they do.
No perceived risk here.
Work is very challenging here. There are no shortage of projects to work on. In fact, you will be expected to "multi-task" between projects. It is important that you can do this successfully here.
Inclusive / Diverse
Diversity is acceptable here.
I deducted a star because I personally felt that my ideas and opinions were not considered most of the time. I can't speak for anyone else though.
Suggestions for improvement
- You really need to consider developing a system to your approach to product design. From ideas, to formal market research, system design, implementation and verification, there needs to be a better process in place to ensure the success of your employees. Also, you should work on how you communicate your goals--meaning a more formalized approach, because it become extremely tiring trying to read your mind.
What I like about the company
I was able to develop a great deal of technical skills working for 3Z Telecom.
What I dislike about the company
There is a lack suitable systems and processes in place. There is a kind of ad-hoc approach to decision making, and countless hours will be spent on working on something that will not be needed when minds are changed.
