This company says one thing and does the complete opposite. Does not live up to it's own standards.
Support from management
Managers only listen to other managers. If you have a concern, idea or a question it is considered "complaining" and having a "bad attitude."
Only certain people are crossed trained on several positions. If you ever need help in your area and ask for it no one comes to help because they do not know what to do. The managers are also unfamiliar when it come to working other positions so they are no help.
Freedom to work independently
The reason you will get to work independently is because fellow coworkers and managers do not know how to work in certain areas of the store. You are guaranteed to be working alone if scheduled in one of those positions.
The only time anything is communicated to anyone is when you or someone else makes mistakes. For example, having an "off/bad day" will result in management telling you how bad you're doing at your job.
They do represent equal opportunity to women and men.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Yes, they hire "elders". However they aren't supported by management, just like younger employees.

Overall compensation for your work
Expect to have to do your job and everyone else's. Even if you have not been trained properly to do so. Management will also expect you to their jobs when they feel like sitting in the office with the door closed and locked for hours at a time. You do not make enough for all of the work and long hours you are expected to do.
Office / Work Environment
Work conditions are so uncomfortable! The air conditioning is either set in the high 80 degrees temp. or it is broken for weeks at a time year round. The lights, registers and air is cuts on and off daily, but still having to work in the dark, heat and excepting money while having to do the math in your head makes things extremely difficult.
Be careful walking on hard wood floors when its wet out. Caution wet floor signs are not allowed because the owner does not believe in having those signs.
People including myself have worked sick. Even while being hospitalized was told to come into work. Pray you never get sick or have a family emergency. Leaving early or not being able to come in will result in a write up or termination. Yes, you are asked to stay later everyday. Regardless of what may be going on in your life, it doesn't matter.
At one time for along I was extremely proud and happy to say and work there. The company as a whole has dropped. It is no longer about employees, the community and having fun. It is just about making a dollar by any means.
Sometimes your hours will be cut if you say you're tired or ask to leave early at slow times. Thus, you will have to beg others for some of their hours so you can make ends meet.
Anyone can say or do anything to any employee (unless it is happening to a manager) and get rewarded with free food, $50 gift card and discounts on their purchases. I have seen it happen too many times to count. Employees are expected to except being verbally assaulted and have things thrown at them.
Work is not challenging. You maybe proud of the work you do but management does not agree unless, you are a fellow manager or someone they consider "their favorite".

Suggestions for improvement
- Cross train every employees to be utilized properly. Get new managers! Listen and consider employees ideas and concerns. Support employees, make them feel valued, appreciated and welcomed. Hire employees with basic knowledge and common sense. Better management is a MUST.
