All the people who have been at this company a few years are very welcoming and eager to help new employees.
Support from management
The Controller is always ready to listen to new suggestions for efficiency improvement and morale boosters.
People in the Accounting Department work together as a team and are willing to reach out to other departments to assist with projects.
Freedom to work independently
Employees are free to work independently within the company; however, review and approval is required for external communication.
Internal communications have become more positive over the past three or four years.
There are more females in the office environment, and more males in the "trade [carpenter, builder, technician]" areas of the company.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Older colleagues are treated with great respect and their knowledge/expertise is sought and appreciated by both management and other employees.
Employees are encouraged to pursue continuing education. Several employees have been promoted within the company, based on their qualifications and job performance.
Overall compensation for your work
Salaries are competitive for the area, and several benefits are offered.
Office / Work Environment
The office equipment and tools are relatively current and office space is neat and clean. While there are efficiency kitchens in the offices, there isn't a real break room available, except for outdoor tables and benches.
The environment is important to management - separate receptacles are available for trash and recyclables. Building sites are kept neat and protections are provided to protect customers' possessions.
After proving oneself in the company, this company allows a good work-life balance as requested by the employee.
The company is highly regarded by locals and by other builders in the community.
Job security is as good as the employee's performance and reliability. If you're good, you stay; if you're a slacker, you can expect to be released.
A handicapped ramp is available at the main office to the main floor, but not to the second floor.
Safety is routinely reviewed, and fire extinguishers are inspected internally and by local officials in offices.
Personally, my work is challenging and my suggestions are heard. Most suggestions are reviewed and implemented, and some are not - based on the company's needs.
Inclusive / Diverse
There are employees of varied racial, religious, ethnic, etc. backgrounds.
Suggestions for improvement
- An increase in positive communication with employees about why decisions are made regarding employee rules, benefits, salary, etc. Meaningful job descriptions and performance evaluations should be on an established basis - at least annually.
What I like about the company
Pride of long-term employees in the company and how it is viewed by the general public.
What I dislike about the company
Not much. I've been an employee for more than ten years and hope to continue as long as my talents are needed.
