Suggestions for improvement
- There used to be a lot of fun events that brought different groups of the company together like summer picnics or travel award banquets that we don't have anymore. The picnics were especially fun and gave us the opportunity to meet people in other areas of the company and their families which made it fill more close knit & like the company cared about us. I'd totally bring these back, though I think the company did away with these to save money. I'd also make the 401(k) match an equal match rather than 50 cents on the dollar and not stretch managers so thin in the retail offices so that there isn't as much turnover, improve the training so everyone knows how to do things more efficiently (though my insurance co-workers have a newsletter that does some of this), as well as better training on technology & better, more efficient technology to do job so more can be done in less time. It seems (not unique here) that most training in companies today is on your own time & dime anymore. Even simple things like booking a trip with flight, tour, hotel, etc. take a lot of time are far from simple, due to antiquated technology, so I'd definitely improve the interface to make this quicker so more members can be served.
What I like about the company
The company is a member-based organization that focuses on doing the right thing for the member and often, employees will go out of their way to ensure the best experience for them. The desire is sincere which shows.
What I dislike about the company
Though employees want to do what's best for the member, often the technology we have to make this happen is lacking and outdated. Managers seemed stretched when having to handle multiple retail offices and the tools between the three main products of insurance, travel and emergency road service are distinct and don't mingle. Unlike some retailers, the purchasing system to buy something can be slow and people can be stretched to get their job done, because there's so much to do, but it takes so long to do it because of the old technology and researching tools, especially for travel stuff. I think managers realize this and are trying to fix it, but it moves at a slow pace when we finally see it in the offices.
