Company Culture

Employees don't feel valued because they are the lowest paid in the industry. Everything else, the pizza, the cups, it's just fluff.

Support from management

Floor supervisors play favorites. They give the easy work a select few, not performance- based.

Teamwork

Team members very supportive of each other

Freedom to work independently

As previously stated, fairness is not a consideration used to assign work.

Gender Equality

Women are offered training and ability to advance. How far depends on their education level.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Senior workers do not advance.

Career Development

Company offers training for other positions.

Overall compensation for your work

Benefits were decent and low cost to employee. But the wages are the lowest in this industry. Considering how challenging the job is, if the company paid more and kept the people who knew how to prevent issues it would be a more rewarding job. Instead of rewarding for a job done well, they reward those who met all the metrics but accomplished nothing for the patient. Remembering to say the company name and keep the call under 2.5 minutes is more important than actually resolving a problem. It must be since those are the people who advance.

Office / Work Environment

Noise excessive for call center. Climate not well - controlled. Lighting is fine, if a bit bright. Pretty sure the ventilation makes people sick. No allergies since quitting.

Environmental Friendliness

People in low income areas trained. I like that. But use of Styrofoam shipping boxes is awful for environmental protection.

Work-Life Balance

Mandatory OT routinely. Days off only approved if you put your request in on January 2, and only if favorites didn't ask for same days.

Company Image

No one I ever spoke to wanted to stay. The reality is if you do your job the way it needs to be done to best serve the patient then you won't make it with this company. And the stress level is so high that it isn't worth it to be paid such a low wage.

Job Security

Right after I left over 200 positions were eliminated.

Handicapped Accessibility

The facility itself is very accessible. Getting into the building from the giant parking lot or if you need public transportation will be extremely difficult.

Challenging Work

The work is mentally and emotionally challenging. At the end of a successful day where you helped resolve significant problems you feel very good. Drained, but good. Even if the company probably penalized you for the length of time it took to resolve someone's 2 month long issue.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Change your metrics to include an actual resolution for the patient's problem. Stop rewarding laziness. Stop promoting people without testing them for knowledge base about the insurance industry. PAY them what other insurance companies pay, considering they do 3 times the work. Stop using Styrofoam.

What I like about the company

The insurance was at low cost to employees and 401K was matched.

What I dislike about the company

Their metrics are impossible to meet unless you simply don't do your job (but you fake it well enough for the audit).

Company Culture

Largely, coworkers are wonderful and supportive. The few who have bad personalities are generally in a group with like - minded people and can be avoided.

Support from management

The supervisors give as much support as they are able to give. But they are known to have favorites who receive special treatment and tasks.

Teamwork

Most colleagues have the best interest of the patient at heart, but there are many who have their own interests in mind, such as keeping their times so low (to earn bonuses) that they accomplish nothing for the patient or the company.

Freedom to work independently

It's a call center environment. Every second is planned for you.

Internal Communication

This area is about average. There were frequent changes in procedure, but we were kept notified. The changes didn't always make sense and interrupted call flow times and created confusion between departments.

Gender Equality

Younger workers are more likely to be promoted, even when they lack knowledge or skills. If they show up every day, and are on time (or the supervisor corrects their times for them) they are more likely to advance.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Older colleagues are appreciated, but are less likely to be promoted, even when they have more knowledge.

Career Development

Unless you are under 35 your opportunities for advancement are slim.

Overall compensation for your work

Now the good stuff. This company pays the industry's lowest compensation for the most challenging job in this field. You must answer insurance questions from members and for coverage checks, schedule deliveries of expensive or specially handled medications, guide patients and medical offices through the jungle of mail order specialty pharmacy, and have enough knowledge of your company's production processes and of insurance parameters to effectively trouble shoot (this comprises 85% of the job). For instance, a worker at Anthem answers coverage questions and makes over $20 an hour to start. A worker at Accredo also answers coverage questions, but must also do all those other things effectively to do the job, but start around $12 per hour. Corporate expectations cannot be met, because to effectively address problems you need more time. The corporate focus is on more money and not serving it's customers. The coworkers who are there for a paycheck keep call times low, say all the required verbiage, and resolve absolutely nothing, and they earn additional compensation for it. Meanwhile, people like me knew how to fix problems, answer coverage questions, help patients plan ahead, assist patients in acquiring Co pay assistance coverage, identify what was holding the process up and take steps to remedy it, but because the five previous people didn't do their job, now my call is going to take forever and I might forget to say "Thank you for calling Accredo" when the patient has gone from tears of frustration to tears of gratitude. That means I won't get any bonuses, but I did get the verbal abuse and the personal satisfaction that I did the right thing. You are not rewarded for fixing problems and others aren't docked for creating them. If they had paid me enough, I would have stayed, but the low compensation combined with the stress caused physical health problems and it simply wasn't worth it.

The benefits were very good and cost very little. Salaries are paid on time.

If they paid more and kept their quality people, turn over would be reduced and client satisfaction would go through the roof. But that is not the case.

Office / Work Environment

It's a large company, so they try to accommodate special needs and include items that will allow more comfort, such as adjustable chairs, keyboard trays, temperature, and noise.

Environmental Friendliness

This isn't a wasteful company, although if there was one thing I would fix it would be a way to allow patients to send back shipping containers for reuse or recycling. Styrofoam is not usually recycled in communities.

Work-Life Balance

You are scheduled 40 hours per week with occasional mandatory overtime.

Company Image

Employees do not love their jobs, except for the ones who are only there to collect a paycheck without actually performing their job (it is done every day). They think it's hilarious that the rest of us from so much time to do it right, and the company rewards that behavior.

Job Security

Because mail order specialty pharmacy is preferred and required by insurance, the stability is excellent. However, when clients (insurance companies) get poor feedback from their members, they choose a different specialty pharmacy, in which case the company has downsized.

Handicapped Accessibility

The company is very conscientious about providing tools for accessibility.

Workplace Safety

This company is probably average on OSHA compliance. The air ducts probably need to be cleaned, because my allergies went away when I left.

Challenging Work

The work is more emotionally and mentally challenging; there is no physical labor in the call center. There is a great sense of satisfaction when completing a challenging call that you were able to resolve, and also on the three minute easy call. The problem is that not all coworkers care about fixing a problem, they only want to get a bonus for short call times, so many times there are unnecessary issues from previous colleagues' lack of thoroughness.

Inclusive / Diverse

About 70% of the workers are poor ethnic women, so if you are white it may take a moment before you fit in.

As for the company, diverse opinions or ideas are not really welcomed or used.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Pay more. Weed out workers who pretend to work. Keep the ones who take a moment to make you look good.

What I like about the company

The benefits, aside from very low compensation, are great.

What I dislike about the company

They do not reward good work habits and don't hold those with poor habits accountable. Since each call is recorded, it is possible to identify those who do nothing except recite the script, and yet those lazy ones are always the ones rewarded and promoted for excellent call times. Think, Accredo, THINK. Those of us who could trouble shoot, who took the extra step for the patient to resolve a problem, we are the ones who deserved recognition. And we definitely deserved more pay. Almost 1/2 of what Anthem pays to do a fraction of the work? Really?
