- Acme Industries (Elk Grove Village, IL / United States)27.Mar 2019
I have been working in the machining manufacturing field for over 35 years, and this place has the highest level of skill of any place I have worked.
Support from management
I personally have the best boss anyone could ever ask for, and I'm not afraid to tell everyone.
We work well across departments to function as a team. We have here what is called a "Formula One" method of dealing with people and customers.
Freedom to work independently
The management actually request are opinions, and asks us for feedback on how we feel the company is treating us.
I have never run into any surprises her. I have always known what is expected of me.
We have both men and women in all types of jobs here, if you can do it, the job can be yours.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Unfortunately our current workforce is aging, and we could use a new uinflux of youger people.
We currently have many job openings, in all areas of the company. I have personally witnessed people climbing up through the company, but personally, I am happy right where I am.
Overall compensation for your work
I'm near the top of the pay scale for what I do, but who wouldn't like to make more?
Office / Work Environment
I work in a cubical that could be a little larger, but all in all, I am very comfortable.
I would like to see more recycling.
I work longer hours than a salary person is paid for, but I really like the work I do.
I am proud to see what we make when it is ready for shipping. The parts we make are high precesion, large and difficult to make. We think are a leader in the industry.
In my case. what I do is in demand at many companies, and it is a field that is difficult to fill with experienced people, so I am very stable.
Everything is a ground level, so no ramps are required, but all areas including the rest rooms are handycap accessable.
We have regularly scheduled traing provided by an outside independent source, and a safety committee that regularly reviews all procedures.
The work I do is very challenging, but this is one of the reasons I like to come to work every day.
Inclusive / Diverse
Like I said earlier, thiis is probably the best company I have ever work for.
Suggestions for improvement
- The quoting seems to be done in a vacuum, and I think we could do our selves, and our customers more justice if the quotes were reviewed more before submitting. It is difficult to make some parts at a profit, and it is not customer friendly to go back and ask for more money.
What I like about the company
I have been with Acme Ind. for more than a decade. I can easily say that in 30+ years of machining, I have never had a more challenging job. We make very large high quality parts, and I believe Acme is a leader in the machining manufacturing industry. We are continuously growing and getting better, with the introduction of more and more fascinating products in our schedule. The people I work with are really more like friends away from home. I know I will have to retire some day, but honestly, I'm not looking forward to that. Anyone with CNC experience should check us out on line. You won't be disappointed.
What I dislike about the company
That's a hard one to answer. I guess that worst part is the drive, since I live over an hour away.
