Company culture is very cutthroat, everyone for themselves type of attitude.
Support from management
There is absolutely no support from management, they will sell you out just as quickly as your fellow associate.
Again, cutthroat. Keep up or get run over.
Freedom to work independently
Extreme micromanagement is the company norm. No matter how good you are, how intelligent you might be, you are treated as if you are incompetent and incapable of doing the simplest and most meanial of tasks.
Information dissemination within the company is usually at the discretionary best interest of the store managers. Policy changes aren’t always posted publicly, and they tend to change overnight.
In the time I’ve worked there, there has been no specific r gender equality training or anything about inclusivity.
Attitude towards older colleagues
They are treated as ignorant fossils and relics of a culture that existed 30+ years ago within the company and the reward of a good job, well done is long dead. You are a unit of measure and if you can’t preform, you are marginalized till you quit. Violence and theft are the only ways to get fired.
You have to work 10-15 YEARS as a part timer before you have any hope of getting full time. And then, it’s not guaranteed, whomever is liked the most by someone is likely to get the job, not the most qualified.
Overall compensation for your work
New hires make $0.30/hr less then people who have worked there 5+ years. It’s an insult really.
Office / Work Environment
Still cutthroat, keep up or get run over.
They are only environmentally friendly enough to pass the health department, if they can cut a corner, even if it’s illegal or dangerous, they will.
There is no work-life balance, they expect you to be ready at a moments notice, and available from 6am to 11pm, and are ready to write you up if you are late for a voluntary shift on your on,y day off. If they catch wind that you have a second job (because everyone can support themselves on 20hrs/wk), then they cut you to 4 hours because you’re an inconvenience now.
There company image is so important that positive, constructive criticism is highly frowned upon.
There is no job security, you’re job can disappear overnight or you can be transferred to a department where you can’t preform as well jus5 because you aren’t licked and you’ll stay there till you quit.
Only enough to meet their legal requirements, there aren’t enough associates to help handicapped customers, without significant effort to find help by the handicapped customer first.
Just don’t get caught being unsafe, otherwise they don’t care.
The work is dead simple, there is no challenge to anything, just the pressure to preform more and more work wit( less help and no meaningful raises, ever.
Inclusive / Diverse
95% of the work force in this specific store is white. Being diverse gets you talked about behind your back, the rumor mill is so bad (good) that it is the best way to discern the truth in most cases.
Suggestions for improvement
- Top down, complete change in company leadership.
What I like about the company
I don’t. I absolutely hate it, but no where else in my county will pay $12/hr to start (and that’s not enough when yo only get 16-20hrs/wk).
What I dislike about the company
Everything. I only stay because of the money.
