I was a physician assistant surgical resident. Long hours. Hard work. Amazing experience that looks great on resume

Former EmployeeWorked at Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta, GA.

What I like

Great experience, see a diversity of conditions/situations. Allows you to work independently, helps you gain self confidence. Great support system, there is always a person to help or for you to go to with issues, questions, concerns

What I dislike

Work-life balance. You are expected to work long hours and give all of yourself for the benefit of the hospital and your patients. This is normal in the healthcare industry but if one doesn’t have coping mechanisms or ways to heal outside of work, burn out is common

Suggestions for improvement

I would improve work life balance. Change the general culture that 90+ hour weeks are normal and expected.
