What else should applicants know about us?

Diversity

Aflac is committed to a culture that embraces an environment of understanding and empathy. You’ll quickly see that we’ve built a company where every employee in our diverse workforce can perform at their very best.

But our diversity efforts don't stop at our front door. They extend into our community through outreach and service—and by our agents, suppliers and business partners.
Through our Diversity Council we’ve developed initiatives to implement, support and help further our diversity-related efforts across the globe.

The result is an enlightened environment that allows us to serve our customers with the compassion and respect they deserve. Especially when they need us most, during a life-changing event or an accident or illnesses. All from a brand that everyone knows and trusts.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Stop searching outside and focus on the talent within. Develop the employees you already have to lead the way in the future.

What I like about the company

Good benefits.

What I dislike about the company

In order to move forward, you have to know the right people. Otherwise, you can get stuck in the same place for years with no growth opportunity. The family oriented feeling is gone. It's all about pushing sales and nothing else matters.

What I like about the company

AFLAC is an easy way to enter the insurance industry.

What I dislike about the company

AFLAC didn't treat their agents well at all. Their mentality is to flood the market with agents and let them all sink or swim. The turn-over rate was higher than any profession I've seen, including fast food and construction. About 1 out of 100 agents were successful in this environment (no exaggeration). There was little attempt to cultivate agents, and the compensation was terrible.

This is a purely commission based job. Agents go door-to-door attempting to persuade business owners to offer AFLAC benefits in their business. There are no protected territories, and running across a business who hasn't seen at least a handful of AFLAC agents over the past year or two is virtually impossible. Many business owners are simply tired of seeing and hearing from AFLAC.

Also, workers are 1099 workers (meaning self-employed), and this is PURELY a commission based job. I've watched time and time again as new agents struggled to get a single account opened, and I saw quite a few times where new agents would work for 3 or more months (spending their own money on gas, lunch, etc.) and making absolutely NOTHING.

This just scratches the surface of the problems I witnessed at AFLAC. Although most agents and sales managers were ethical, the ones who weren't caused quite a bit of problems and were not dealt with quickly or effectively at all.
