Company Culture

Going through some difficult times right now so culture has taken a hit. There have been some layoffs so the work environment Is not at its best

Support from management

I receive support as best as they can provide. Could use other resources and systems, but they're just not available

Teamwork

I wouldn't say this is a corporate culture, but certainly a local levels there is encouragement

Freedom to work independently

There's a lot of oversight, top down strategies, micromanagement

Internal Communication

Not a very communicative company

Gender Equality

As a woman, I do feel underpaid compared to male peers in the same room

Attitude towards older colleagues

I suppose they are fair enough with that age group

Career Development

As it is such a large company, there are definitely opportunities for growth. Training not so much'

Overall compensation for your work

As mentioned previously, I feel as a woman my compensation is lower than male peers in the same role

Office / Work Environment

With expense management, the workspace has gotten very tight. Certainly feels like the least amount of fresh air is introduced to the building probably the weekly minimum required as it's very stuffy and I have sinus issues while in the office

Environmental Friendliness

We are provided with blue recycle buckets for paperBut no plastics recycling on site

Work-Life Balance

While there are flexible work arrangements, still difficult to have a good worklife balance due to the amount of workload everyone has

Company Image

I used to be, but not so much anymore

Job Security

Lately, no one feels the position is stable. There have been many reductions in force lately

Handicapped Accessibility

All facilities I have been to have been handicap accessible

Workplace Safety

Well they certainly maintain a safe working environment I don't really know of any training provided except for fire drill training

Challenging Work

My role in particular is quite challenging, however being understaffed makes it that much harder

Inclusive / Diverse

They are open to diverse opinions

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would go back to a style of forced ranking for year end reviews. The way year end compensation is distributed really doesn't allow big reward for the top staff. Also they Pay for performance, so short term bonuses tend to be larger and salaries tend to be lower. However depending on overall company results, they will only contribute to the short term bonuses of a certain percentage this past year it was 85%. So regardless of how you're operating unit did you get 15%/off of your short term bonus which is a big part of overall compensation since the salaries tend to be lower

What I like about the company

There are some amazing people that work at the company. I enjoyed interacting with such intelligent people there are definitely growth opportunities as the company is so large. Many of my positive experiences are far in the past.Whether it be due to recent financial Results, or just general expense control' It has been a difficult company to work for

What I dislike about the company

Not invest more money into systems and technology. Going way too far with expense control. By reducing the workforce, it increases the pressure of the rest of the employees to the point that people are leaving for having health issues

Company Culture

Current culture is up in the air. Under all new Sr. Mgmt and there have been a lot of changes.

Support from management

I am currently in a good team and have much of the support I need. Has it always been that way… As I said before it depends on your leader/team

Teamwork

They definitely encourage us to work and interact well together

Freedom to work independently

I am a senior employee, and at times I do feel micromanaged.

Internal Communication

They do communicate well, with town halls, emails etc.

Gender Equality

As a woman, I do feel underpaid as compared to men in the same role

Attitude towards older colleagues

I don’t see any age discrimination at the company

Career Development

There are definitely prospects with in as it is a very large company however having somebody mentoring you into a career path certainly depends on your immediate leader.

Overall compensation for your work

I feel I am underpaid especially with the additional responsibilities that have been added over the last couple of years

Office / Work Environment

Suitable workspace

Environmental Friendliness

Resources

Work-Life Balance

Everyone has taken on more responsibilities so it is difficult to have a good worklife balance. However they do have a flexible work arrangements, work from home, etc. to assist with the balancing.

Company Image

I used to be even more so, but the culture has change so much and reputation has change so much

Job Security

No one is safe

Handicapped Accessibility

All locations I have been to have had appropriateResources

Workplace Safety

No specific training for a safe work environment, but then again it’s an office environment

Challenging Work

They are not refilling all roles when people leave so everyone has had to take on more responsibilities.

Inclusive / Diverse

To some extent opinions are supported…

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would amend the year end review process… Not necessarily to a forced ranking type method , but something of that nature I think it would promote some healthy competition within. I would formalized training programs… Currently there’s some online material and pretty much on the job Learning. I would institute more types of classroom training. I would improve the on boarding process. Currently it’s a bit of a hassle for a new employee

What I like about the company

It is a large company with a large reach. There are some very knowledgeable people to learn from and some excellent leaders to guide you through your career path. Due to the size, there are always opportunities within. Many people within the insurance industry works at AIG at one point in their career.

What I dislike about the company

Compensation means heavily towards pay For performance. However the company contributes Based on overall company results. So you can work really hard and meet your goals And be profitable, yet you’re here and bonus is only be paid out at 80 to 90% Due to overall company results. There have been no classmates

Company Culture

Varied among the many groups

Support from management

Immediate manager did not share ideas or new information until it adversely affected the small team. it was at this point the VP would point blame on the team members for not being informed. Manager was a renegade for ideas that made little sense.

Previous manager was very supportive and welcomed new ideas. VP also insisted to fire a colleague for no apparent good reason. She insisted the manager find a reason to eliminate her.

Teamwork

Immediate manager did not share ideas or new information until it adversely affected the small team. it was at this point the VP would point blame on the team members for not being informed. Manager was a renegade for ideas that made little sense

Freedom to work independently

Because the manager I had last was very hands off I have to give this only two stars. His priority was to attend as many meeting as possible along with always seeking to entertain vendors without good cause. We were left to our own judgement most of the time.

Internal Communication

New younger managers refuse to heed the advise from tenured employees. Have seen tenured employees brought up on administrative warnings without merit.

Processes that were in place to help the claims professionals were eliminated because the VP insisted they were not cost effective and antiquated even though there were no replacements for the process or systems.

Gender Equality

Maybe more so in the group i was in where there were mostly woman in senior positions

Attitude towards older colleagues

Older employees are being laid off systematically. My team consisted of two over 60 employees and both were let go citing their responsibilities were being directed to off-shore (India). only to see my job posted on the company Intranet.

Overall compensation for your work

Was paid significantly less then all other employees with the same title. When I pressed for a adjustment my title was changed to a lower grade to ensure my salary was at the top of that level.

Office / Work Environment

I worked remotely from home

Environmental Friendliness

I worked remotely from home

Work-Life Balance

Worked remotely for 9 years and it was a great balance that afforded me the

Handicapped Accessibility

I worked remotely from home

Workplace Safety

I worked remotely from home

Challenging Work

Very challenging work as I was PM for projects and services that I was not familiar with. This led me to research these services so I could perform my responsibilities with confidence and proper knowledge.

Inclusive / Diverse

Seemed to me they would push too much and actually foster reverse discrimination. I felt that if I spoke up about this it would have a adverse affect on my employment

Suggestions for improvement

  • Listen to tenured employees and the more experienced managers. A good manager knows to listen to their employees and value the information and knowledge they possess and will be able to build upon that knowledge and offer a better solution or process.

What I like about the company

I did like that when I was hired the culture was to have everyone included in the decision making. however this all changed as the older experienced employees left or were let go. The younger generation had no desire to capitalize on the knowledge of the tenured employees.

What I dislike about the company

Management in the group i was in is blind and deaf as i stated above
