Support from management

If I could give this no stars I would. Managers do not advocate for their employees and stick up for their friends. Some do stick up for their people, but most of them don't.

Teamwork

There is not too much teamwork, only so when people knew each other and practice forms of nepotism. Teamwork also suffers when there is a lack of communication and more gossip.

Freedom to work independently

This would depend on the department that the employee works in.

Internal Communication

Commication is horrible and degrades especially between management and employee.

Gender Equality

Females are in lower mangement position, except for HR. There are females in some higher positions, but there seems to be more men. Other companies tend to be more diverse in terms of promotions.

Attitude towards older colleagues

In the stores, it's mixed, depending on department and management. But in the corporate office, it tends to be older people are in the majority.

Career Development

There are some development programs for employees, if the information can be found through company resources. If you can utilize them, you might get ahead. College tuition assistance. Much of this revolves around the younger generation though.

Overall compensation for your work

The houly rate is ok, weekly pay is modest at best. Benefits are not offered only after working a certain amount of hours.

Office / Work Environment

It is low key for the most part, even though some corporate employees are a little unprofessional.

Work-Life Balance

Most hours are all over the place and it is difficult to have any kind of work life balance.

Company Image

The company projects a negative image, the gossip, nepotism and lack of diversity. Being bailed out constantly, lack of empathy for entry level employees. Hard work is not rewarded.

Job Security

Work load and hours are unpredictable and precarious. Jobs are always being cut and it is unknown as to whether or not someone will be working for an extended period of time. The business always changes. Expect that there is a chance that you will walk in the door one morning and walk out at the end unemployed.

All of the buildings are accessible.

Workplace Safety

There is an emphasis on safety and training and people are aware of protocols that must be followed.

Challenging Work

You will be worked harder, Sometimes past your limits. They will work you for the same tasks, if you are effective, which will hinder advancement into other areas.

Inclusive / Diverse

Diversity....it's like the 50s. There is not a lot recognition of different races and not many different races in the workforce. They don't tend to be not too trusting of people of young people in their corporate IT department.

  • Improve communication, diversify the work force, show flexibility and provide support for your employees when needed.

What I like about the company

Employee discount, state of the art facility and hourly wage is above average.

What I dislike about the company

The favoritism and nepotism that discourages individuals from evolving in the company. Promoting a hostile work environment. Singling out and destroying others who try to improve the work environment. Overworking employees beyond their limits. The level of disdain between corporate and store level employees. Discouraging initiative. Not following rules and protocols. Ineffective HR, HR not following through and following up.

I can honestly say that the best job as far as career development and work atmosphere was Albertsons. I missed working for them ever since I had to move and all of the local stores had shut down or relocated. My superior (Laura) has been such a great role model in my life, and taught me more about working in the management and customer service industry than I would have been able to learn in years. There was always room for success as long as you worked hard and did well at your job with a smile

Of course! No one was ever into all that drama or dumb stuff. Just a couple of real down to earth mofos...along with a few immature highschoolers.

Freedom to work independently

I was shown so much trust being left at night with thousands of dollars to do the backings along with the fact that one time money went missing and my boss never once suspected me. It was in fact the frozen manager, but he never got in trouble.

Internal Communication

Employees were generally easy to work with, though the yo uh Niger high school kids would rarely carry out the jobs requested of them without me having to tell them daily.

Gender Equality

Most definitely! All the women would progress in their career if they wanted, only issue I had was when the money was stolen from my banking while I went to the restroom the frozen manager stole it and had no repercussions. I was fired however. Even though Laura told the DM it wasn't me. She knew it was him, unfortunately the cameras were magically off that night. And the DM, was male.

Attitude towards older colleagues

We only had a couple but yes, they were always treated with respect and at other locations I always noticed they employed more elderly as they were in town and probably made it ideal for older people. They were given opportunities just as well and treated as they should have been.

Career Development

Yes, as I mentioned in my first description Albertsons was one of only two companys I've worked for that allowed room for bettering your career as well as encouraging the younger ones to pursue their education. The only other business that allowed for such opportunities was Kangaroo (The Pantry).

Overall compensation for your work

Yes. I had nothing less of fair promotion after promotion until now as I earn my own wage

Office / Work Environment

Oh yes, was very bright and in the high temperatures of summer down in FL the air conditioning was top notch. Rest rooms could have been closer to the front as I had to urinate frequently because of a medical condition.

Environmental Friendliness

Yes. We always tossed paper trash into the paper recycling bin and boxes were compressed for reusable cardboard. Also, trading in things like kegs and propane tanks was better for the environment.

Work-Life Balance

Definitely. There was always care for who was in college, school hours, parents etc...Laura worked around anyone's schedule and like she taught me, would come in herself if she had to so that another employee co ui ld have their needs met firts.

Company Image

Of course because I took away a lot from Albertsons and working for them years ago before the Gainesville location shut down and I moved on to open my own tobacco gift shop! Laura and my peers would be so proud. I wish I could thank her for all she taught me. The best store Manager/boss ever.

Job Security

Yes. I do. I have always thought about these same facts I am not putting in these comments, I couldn't be more grateful for the experience and professional knowledge that I gained, and I also never forgot how the man who got me fired smirked after getting away with stealing $1k while the DM either knew or didn't believe any of his management team (all females btw) besides him.

Handicapped Accessibility

Yes. And many handicap parking spaces as well as wheel chair friendly sidewalks and entryways.

Workplace Safety

For sure! Anytime there was a spill, mess or accident waiting to happen an employee or myself would be on it immediately! Also, we were always ready with drugs, umbrellas and sanitation whipes.

Challenging Work

I would consider putting more stars as the jobs I was in charge or as well as the tasks I would complete daily exceeded beyond what I would imagine most others in my position at the time (20years old) would more than likely expect to be less responsible.

Inclusive / Diverse

I don't argue that Albertons was diverse, as far as I could tell, yes. Management (including myself as the high rh manager) was always working on better ideas and open tr o each others suggestions. Also, the assistant manager was a lesbian so that showed tolerance, the main ingredient in diversity. I loved it there, I miss my peers so much!!!

Suggestions for improvement

  • Improvements would include more locations, with the ability to help low income homes with all profits that aren't needed for basic survival. I live simple...so I will keep it that way even when I expand so that I may give to others who are struggling like I once was. (Living in my car)...

What I like about the company

My company has been a positive growth for myself as well as others in my life. Once I was able to flourish I was sure to share the wealth and provide great paying jobs to those in need and keep a cool calm and collective atmosphere of friendship and honesty between my customers, myself and employees. I wouldn't change the way o have done things, I learned from my manh mistake in the beginning, but I also noticed that bnb I am not a greedy person and that has been the key to such joyful success. It has only been when those who are selfish overprice their products that o realized, wow...I know they pay like $3.00 for that...and they're asking like $12.00-$28.00!!! I am not joking either, once you've been a business owner and you come to terms with what wholesale pricing and retail pricing is, you learn a lot. But! Once you have witnessed 70% of the businesses around charge double, triple and in some cases 4x the suggested retail price...now that just makes me more determined to be a honest and humble shop owner. Greed will be the downfall of all humankind, its already the reason for such a huge gap between the rich and poor. I have had the displeasure of witnessing selfish, narcissistic greed too often as even my fiancee's family has been some of the most seld-absorbed people I have met. Fortunately working with the public I am able to witness wonderful, caring, kind, giving human beings...this remind me that there is still good in the world...

What I dislike about the company

I will say that the best ideas to improve upon what already is...come fr ol m Mr customers. So I would try to listen to them more often, even if it's an idea I don't completely agree with. It's worth a try, be crazy! Hehe

They preach Courtesy, Respect and Dignity.....well you lead by example....this must be why managers talk about employees to OTHER employees.....and don't even try to hide it...or if you work and do your job and a customer wants something for free, they point out an employee and complain!! So the store manager gives the customer a free cart of groceries....managers lie and tell employees yes they can have a transfer...LOL aint happening!!! Do your job and do not get rewarded!!!

Support from management

No managers will ever help the deli....even when the deli is getting their buts handed to them!!! Now the managers WILL run to the bakery and help, but the deli....they tell other employees to help the deli!!!! These employees don't have the training ...well neither does the so called leaders (managers)

new employees have one day of training....yup!!! One day!!!! My manager complained about a night employee to me and I responded "they aren't trained they do not know any better" she responded, I received one day of training and I was told swim or drown".......boy uneducated, untrained....no wonder the company doesn't pay them a decent wage!!! The managers do not know how to communicate or manage!!!

There is NO Communication!!! When we had a sale we were told no substitutes.....I asked my supervisor if the store manager was going to back us and I was told yes the store manager IS going to back us when we had an argumentative customer....NOPE did not happen so I looked like an idiot and gave them exactly what they wanted!!!! We were not supposed to make sandwiches b/c of the nutrient count....well our store manager said I don't want to lose a sale, make them......I told my supervisor, I am not and you should call your regional and tell her to contact the store manager b/c the store manager is going to throw you under the bus, she won't tell the truth!!!!

I have witnessed managers go after long term employees!!! New bakery manager complained, and set up a long term employee and I heard her say, I am going to get my friends in here!!!!! I am a senior and I have to admit, the managers really don't talk to me!!!! Thank you God!!!
One long term employee was awarded with employee of the month, as she shook the managers hand, she was handed another paper and was told sign this write up!!! The employee asked "What, you are writing me up? Talk about peeing on my parade!!!! I asked "Did you get a write up for being employee of the month?" LOL....

I believe President Trump gave businesses a tax reimbursement...a lot of company's gave the employees some type of compensation!!! Not where I work!!! We can not get any type of raise only until you work 10,000 hours!!! How long is that????? But when you have no jobs, no work you will take anything!!!!

Office / Work Environment

The bakery and deli are connected!! Lots of heat and humidity! I bought a thermometer and hung it where everyone can read it (it is really large) so no manager comes to the back of the deli or bakery.... and employees can not have h20 with them!!! Now FDA states you can have h20 and keep the lid on and away from food!!!! Only cashiers and the people that put new prices up are allowed to have h20 with them.....the rest of us can trott the store and drink in the employee break room!!!! Well I can't get there due to there is no one else in my department!!! Screw them, I keep my h20 with me!!! And I drink it!!!

Environmental Friendliness

Well we no longer help out the food bank!!! BUT!!!! We do throw away perfectly good food in two (2) and a half days!!! All the hungry people and I hear the advertisement that this company is helping to fight child hunger....really????? Is that why we throw away GOOD FOOD IN THE TRASH??? SHAME SHAME SHAME (hypocrites)

Work-Life Balance

If you request a day off....you may get it, but you will have to pay the toll, by working 13 days straight until the managers feel you have paid back the debt of requesting off..and open then close then open then close scheduling!!! Nice managers HUGH?

Company Image

Wants to be the friendly neighborhood store.....then drop your prices and stop raising them weekly...and blaming the employees for the lack of sales!!! Customers are NOT stupid.....the employees stopped shopping here, what does that tell you, most of your sales were from employees!!!

Job Security

Managers like to walk around and threaten employees with their jobs!!! Even though the managers DO NOT know how to work in all the departments!!! UNEDUCATED AND UNTRAINED.....

Workplace Safety

No air conditioning in the back of the house for deli and bakery....we did not have thermal gloves over a month for the fryers and ovens.....manager said it is not in her budget, her bonus comes first!!!! I bet the offices are air conditioned with soft padded chairs for their bloated buts to sit on!!!

Sure just don't ask to transfer!!!! The only ones that can transfer are the managers friends!!! Oh we do have the union (joke)!!!!

Well this is what the management (corp managers) preach....but they really should practice what they preach....to the employees they are a bunch of dopes.......sitting on their butts, in an airconditioned office stagnating in an untouched reality!!!! but we all know who is truthfully creating revenue for the company

Suggestions for improvement

  • Have the CEO actually come down and possibly visit, now you will not get a true scope how nasty it really is but you will look as though you are trying! Better yet get someone to actually get a job and work alongside us and you will be advised how nasty this company is becoming..If you do not actively fix the problem, them you are part of the problem!!!

What I like about the company

I used to really like the company I worked for!!! But lately it seems that the fat cats are really trying to shut down the company....pitiful!!!!

What I dislike about the company

I really have to admit.....at my location (store)....it was a pretty nice place to work!!! But we just got a new store manager and encourages employees to cut each other's throat, fight with one another and gossip!!! It was never this way before!! It sickens me to even get out of bed and show up!! Yes I am actively seeking other employment!!! There is NO benefit working in this company!!! You earn every single penny on your check!!!
