Zero employee involvement in policies and procedures pertaining to the job of a corrections officer. Some expectations are unrealistic due to staffing levels.
People don't always get along but when help is needed people have your back most times.
Freedom to work independently
They are always looking for something wrong you did so I would say no.
Communication is terrible.
Attitude towards older colleagues
If you want promoted it's who you know and who you . . . The best people are not always promoted.
Overall compensation for your work
Awesome money really, but it's not enough if you don't make it home to your family. That's always a possibility.
Office / Work Environment
Poor ventilation, broken chairs. You really shouldn't ever sit but when you do it's usually in a 10 year old chair.
Recycling is plastic only in the lounge, metal cans and
Plastic in the canteen. No wide-scale plastic recycling and zero paper recycling.
Nope. This does not exist. They could care less about your family or you as a person.
I am, but the public has no concept of what we do.
I am proud of the job I do everyday and I do try to ensure anybody in my care returns to society with a goal of being more productive and not coming back to jail.
