My experience working at this company has been rewarding and motivating. I love going to work hopefully this will stick.
What I like
As a nurse I have patients lives at my hands everyday. There was one instance I was taking care of a sick patient for 5 days in a row and his wife was there every single day. He progressively got worse and his wife could see it with every passing day. On the 5th day the wife decided to put him on hospice and she sat there crying. I grabbed her tissues and gave her a big hug. It was one of those times in nursing that you feel so humbled to be able to be apart of someone’s life like that. Another personal experience I had was coworker related. I was stuck in a room for awhile and I asked my coworker to watch my other patients. Not only did she do that but she gave meds in my other rooms as well. She helped out in a tight situation and couldn’t be more thankful for her.
What I dislike
I disapprove with my manager calling out employees about using sick time frequently even though per our union contract there are no limitations to using sick time. A union rep heard of this and is handling the situation.
Suggestions for improvement
I feel our nurse to patient staffing ratio could be improved. On my floor we get really sick and critical patients and we need to focus on them more frequently. Sometimes I feel like we are overworked and that could be changed by adding an extra nurse to work.
My coworkers are like family. We all work as a team and provide safe patient care.
My manager always encourages us!
Nursing is challenging. I have people’s lives in my hands everyday but I wouldn’t want it any other way!
