Suggestions for improvement
- Correct the compensation package for agents. Eliminate the bloated middle management positions, and institute a dialog between agents and management rather than a top down, didactic communications style.
I like about the employer
I was an agency owner with Allstate Insurance Company from 2001 until 2008, and the company treated me right.
I dislike about the employer
Late in my career with the company, the senior management instituted a new compensation plan for agents that cut most agents' income in half. Moreover, the senior management at Allstate decided to throw additional costs on the agency force, e.g. charging $30 for a case of copy paper with the company logo, phone system, computers, and Internet router. The company, like many other large, nationwide corporations, outgrew its ability to communicate effectively. The company also fell into the trap of having no one in senior management with field sales experience; which led to some very poor product design, marketing, and sales management decisions. The company also had a bloated layer of middle management personnel who had a tremendous responsibility for increasing sales, but no real authority to make necessary changes that would allow this to happen.
