The only culture here at the National Center is one where the employees are worth nothing and management is the good old boys/girls club.
Support from management
Employees are never consulted, even at the department level. Management provides no support. There are no advancement opportunities and management would rather continue to add work to existing staff than to hire additional staff even when there is money.
Freedom to work independently
This is a place of micro-management. There are multiple meetings to determine who should be at meetings related to projects, that is not being sarcastic, it is the reality of this organization.
There is no real opportunity for advancement at this organization. Once individuals get into a management role, they stay there or are allowed to stay there by management even when they aren't good managers.
Overall compensation for your work
The organization pays average worker below market value for positions. However, if you happen to get hired into an upper level management position you will be fine. Executives are paid very well and often rewarded with annual pay increases larger than the standard rating percent that staff would receive.
Office / Work Environment
The building is infested with roaches. The building has many areas that leak. The building is always dirty, carpets not vacuumed daily, conference tables not cleaned nightly and staff who hold meetings almost always don't pick up after themselves, so if you are going into a conference room for a meeting, you need to be prepared to have to clean tables of food, drinks, trash etc.
Expect that the management will have work-life balance but as a staff member you will not. Staff are expected to put in the extra hours to ensure that goals are meet and projects finished. Management do not feel they need to do that to help, that is only the responsibility of the staff.
This is an "at-will" organization, so they need no reason to terminate you. If they can find someone to do your job for less money, they will eliminate your position to get rid of you and post a new job posting with a different title and less pay, but same duties.
Inclusive / Diverse
JOKE! This organization has a department specific to this, that does good work. The executive management however treat this as an item that is a simple check box to say they did it. Executive management is not behind this program.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get rid of all the current management and start over. It is also time to start over with the people making this decision. Time to add new blood to the entire oversight group and management.
