Toxic work environment. These are some seriously deceitful people. They will say anything to get you to come work for them. Once you start working they forget all of their commitments to you. Beware.
Support from management
Management does not supply the basic things needed to do the job. This is a toxic work environment and it comes from the top on down.
At most sites the staff pull together. It is a survival mechanism.
Freedom to work independently
It vaccilates...they let you work independently for awhile and then they jump in the middle of what you are doing and completely change the goals, etc.
Communication is fine. It is just that the rules and commitments change all of the time. They let you know just as they are about to do something crappy to you.
There is a good bit of sexual harrassment in the camps.
Attitude towards older colleagues
There are some good people who come to work at AMIkids. They just don't tend to stay.
There isn't any.
Overall compensation for your work
Terrible pay. They will lie about what they are going to pay you and then find a way to cheat you.
Office / Work Environment
Filthy, run down work environment.
The public image isn't bad overall. The image of some camps in their community or state is fairly bad.
If you are working under a grant beware. They will give you no notice if they screw it up and the grant does not get renewed. Poof, you are unemployed.
Not handicapped accessible.
No plan in place for invasion, etc. Not secure.
It is great to work with the kids which is why so many people try and stick it out.
Inclusive / Diverse
Yes, and no.
Suggestions for improvement
- AMIKids needs a serious management overhaul.
