Company Culture

The company talks about culture culture culture, what always glitter is not gold. This company in a period of 5 years was still trying to figure out how a fashion forward company should stand.. Look back at 2013-2014 when we had a new logo that represented Ann. From the operational business front to HR and Visual there is no consistency. They need to have one basic message and keep it there.

Support from management

Working in the store line can be very hectic however any emotional feelings can dissipate when you have strong leaders who are motivators, good quality leadership skills, and overall inspiration. The company must not have too many chiefs and not enough indians. Ann Taylor must have a clean presentation of leaders from the Regional Manager to the District Manager down to it's Store Manager. Also a District Manager who knows how to lead 4-5 stores and is capable to balance them in great leadership skills and have a fair leading.

Gender Equality

We all experience a "change" at some point in every company/ business. For Ann Taylor in the district of Manhattan we experience numerous amounts of change through out the years up until 2015 when a new District Manager came into position. This district manager lead a different way and started to use references in the hiring field in only hiring female employees. These employees were from Stock, Sales, and Managers. Because we work for an industry that supplies to women only, that means the population of employees must be women only. Also because Gallup does surveys every week, month, year does not mean its an actual true fact: in which there was a survey for gallup that states female bosses are more engaged than male bosses. Everyone has an equal opportunity, especially if they are workingg for an industry that only interacts with one sex ot the other.

Attitude towards older colleagues

There are no longer employees that are 45+ . There were interviews conducted at the one store in Flatiron that had groups of maybe 8-12 and the majority of candidates were over 45 years looking for either part time positions as a second jobs or candidates that are looking for jobs because either they lost their jobs and were laid off. Not one of those candidates were hired and at that, the majority of them were males.

Support from management

There are so many leaders involved that they tend to oversee employee productivity vs targeting employees who are late, or have family issues that surface during holiday or high peek time e.g. Day, Month, & Year

Suggestions for improvement

  • It is once said, there are too many chiefs and not enough indians. As a store level, disctirct level and more over in a regional level understand what are true roles and responsibilities not only as a store but as an employee. There too many inconsistent changes that are implemented in these stores that overall demotivate employees and destroy the moral. If you are going back to basic, then basic needs to be clean, clear, and overall concrete.

What the company stood for from the beginning of time. How it was created and the culture that was intended to be.

What I dislike about the company

It is not the company as a whole. However people or employers often mistake the entire company on certain issues that happens in place of employment/store. Employers need to realize that or understand ans ask the question- What is your manager doing that is not metting the employees expectations. Managers can not be only subject to call out expections among employees but employees have the right to ask What is my manager doing that is not helping me be productive or grow?
