Company Culture

Everyone is very kind and respectful.

Support from management

My manager and lead are always supportive.

Teamwork

One of our yearly goals is to improve team building and environment.

Freedom to work independently

In my department, many employees are given a lot of Independence.

Internal Communication

There are frequent emails, but not always about what the employees care about.

Gender Equality

Females promoted as frequently as males. Can't speak to pay fairness.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Had employees of all ages.

Career Development

I have a lot of room for growth.

Overall compensation for your work

I feel quite fortunate.

Office / Work Environment

I just don't like the open cubicle layout.

Environmental Friendliness

Recycling bins and only communal trash bins.

Work-Life Balance

Allows work from home!

Company Image

Despite its vilification, I think Anthem is an ethical company that tries its best within a broken system.

Workplace Safety

No issues.

Challenging Work

Challenging I'm a good way. I'm always reaching for better job performance.

Inclusive / Diverse

Very diverse backgrounds with employees from many different countries.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would provide commuter benefits and a better health plan, ironically.

What I like about the company

I have been recognized as someone who puts the company values into action. The internal clients that I've worked with have been super engaged in member health and improving health plan offerings.

What I dislike about the company

I wish the leadership would be more transparent about business decisions that are in the works. Also, I feel that different parts of the company can be siloed and not work as efficiently as they could if information was shared across the enterprise.

Company Culture

I feel that Anthem is a strong and extremely diverse company which make them a leader in any industry there. However their ever changing leadership and changing project management strategy makes it hard to complete projects in a timely manner. There are so many rules between the request of a task, project or strategy to get to completion that I feel it makes project more costly, time consuming and confusing. There are too many management tools that don't have connecting standards as well.

Support from management

I feel that my manager is one of the best I've ever worked for in my 30+ years of working in corporate IT.

Internal Communication

I have regular 1 on 1 meetings with my manager. He is always available to support me with whatever I need. We also have regular town hall meetings at all levels of the company.

Gender Equality

Much or our leadership are Female from Project Manager level to Company President and CEO. I'm proud of being part of such a diverse company.

Office / Work Environment

I work from home and have only been to one location during my tenure with the company.

Environmental Friendliness

I work from home 100% of the time so I really do not have good knowledge of office locations.

Job Security

I don't feel that any position is ever stable in any corporate environment. One bad year and anything is possible.

Handicapped Accessibility

I work from home 100% of the time so I really do not have good knowledge of office locations.

Workplace Safety

I work from home 100% of the time so I really do not have good knowledge of office locations.

Challenging Work

My work is challenging however I have a great team, awesome support from my business partners and great support from my manager so it doesn't feel as hard as it could be.

Inclusive / Diverse

This company is extremely diverse and provides a culture of inclusion to all.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I believe that Anthem does a great job of making employees feel wanted and valuable. They spend quite a bit of time looking at and retooling the budgets so that makes everyone a little more scared than budget conscious. Also, we are spread out all over the country and many groups never meet in person. I think Anthem should look at the value of allowing teams to travel to work as a group for a few days or a week to get to know each other face to face and not simply by phone calls. I do feel they miss the value that the occasional personal interaction with teammates has on team building, trust and communication. So a trip once a year or once every other year to put a face with a voice would definitely be beneficial. I've been with this company for a few years and have never met my direct manager or most of my team.

What I like about the company

I feel that there is a great encouragement to work as a team here and collaborate on all projects. There are many moving parts to what makes us successful and by allowing us the ability to work together as individual contributors make us better as a whole.

What I dislike about the company

I worry about the constant changes in leadership as well as the overuse of management tools. We could really use less rules and steps and a more unified set of IT standards to provide faster and less expensive results.

Company Culture

Anthem has a very diverse employee base, the CEO is a woman so there is a good mix of genders in the workplace. There's less racial diversity but I have never heard of any racial tensions. Anthem tried to encourage diversity awareness and volunteering to credit a welcoming environment.

Support from management

Anthem has a very diverse employee base, the CEO is a woman so there is a good mix of genders in the workplace. There's less racial diversity but I have never heard of any racial tensions. Anthem tried to encourage diversity awareness and volunteering to credit a welcoming environment.

Teamwork

Anthem is very invested in honesty and transparency. They try to be a company that is easy to do business with.

Freedom to work independently

This will probably vary based on manager, but my manager takes a hands-off approach which I enjoy. We're all professionals and as such we are encouraged to work as independent professionals with a team for support

Internal Communication

Communication is always a problem in every workplace. Because there are so many factors in communications. Overall Anthem does a good job of trying to keep their employees informed.

Gender Equality

Anthem's CEO is a woman. I think women are well-represented here

Attitude towards older colleagues

Anthem hires new employees who are older. Age is not a deterrent to working here.

Career Development

They try to offer educational sessions and advancement through extra projects and management training.

Overall compensation for your work

I am happy with my pay and benefits.

Office / Work Environment

In the office the temperature is always cold and to save on energy resources the water in the bathrooms is always cold. The IT department is hard to get in touch with--rather than just walking in to talk to them you have to get a ticket from calling and spending 30+ minutes talking to someone who won't be able to fix the problem

Environmental Friendliness

Anthem tries to lower their impact on the environment by encouraging recycling and energy conservation.

Work-Life Balance

Overall work-life balance is good. My biggest complaint is that to encourage this Anthem took the position of only allowing employees to carry over 40 hours of PTO at the new year. This makes early-year vacations difficult as they can wipe out your PTO leaving you nothing to fall back on if you get sick later.

Company Image

I am happy with the work I do and enjoy it.

Job Security

I feel as stable as I can in today's economic environment.

Handicapped Accessibility

All Anthem facilities are ADA accessible.

Workplace Safety

Anthem has good security and strives to maintain all safety regulations.

Challenging Work

Every day is different. While many day-to-day activities are routine, the human element of my job means that there is constantly new concerns, issues, or problems popping up to deal with. The work requires you be able to multitask well.

Inclusive / Diverse

Anthem has many diversity employee groups and encourages the active exploration of diversity inclusion.

Suggestions for improvement

  • If I could change anything it is always to improve communication and transparency. Luckily I can't reference specific examples of problems with these things, however, I have found that every company does have problems with these and working on improving them is never a bad idea.

What I like about the company

I have enjoyed working for Anthem. They have recently assigned me to a special project which I think plays on my strengths and allows me opportunities I wouldn't have from other organizations. My team and manager are supportive and helpful. Overall I would recommend Anthem as an employer. There are many teams and employees at Anthem, there is bound to be a fit for just about anyone within the infrastructure.

What I dislike about the company

I dislike some of the money-saving things the company does. The lack of hot water in the bathrooms makes winters difficult. The changes to benefits that inevitably tend to decrease the benefit is always frustrating.
