Their idea of a proper workplace environment is to drink beer, play video games, and throw foam rubber darts at each other all day.
Support from management
You're replaceable. Shut up. Sit down.
Every person for themselves. They do not seem to grasp that certain employees don't know everything and nobody is willing to listen to anyone else.
Freedom to work independently
Someone's in your face all the time.
Lots of pointless internal meetings and demo sessions where it's fun to sit and count the inaccuracies.
Attitude towards older colleagues
They like to claim it's a young company and people with experience are often treated as obstacles.
You're held to the whims of code reviewers who cling to some tenets like life preservers and completely ignore all the others. It's maddening.
Overall compensation for your work
They paid me a lot because they were desperate to have someone on hand, because everyone before me had suddenly quit. Wonder why.
Office / Work Environment
Open floorplan to ridiculous lengths, and it's impossible to dodge the flying foam darts. Also they have a terrible property theft/misappropriation problem in that office. If it's worth more than $5, leave it in your car.
I saw a lot of garbage piled up everywhere.
Everyone else left at 4:15 so why wouldn't you?
Not great, apparently, evidenced by the astronomic turnover.
They'd love to keep more people, but don't have a clue how.
Narrow walkways and entrances combined with piles of toys and trash strewn about make for a hazardous environment for anyone, let alone the disabled.
Only challenging in the sense that after reviewing their code and platforms you're left wondering "how are these idiots making any money?"
Suggestions for improvement
- GROW UP.
What I like about the company
I really did not like anything about working there. I felt stifled by the environment, was offended by the juvenile and unprofessional antics, and shocked at how self-important some of their people are.
What I dislike about the company
I told my supervisor I didn't want to participate in the foam dart throwing, and the response was picking up a foam dart and throwing it directly at my head from two feet away. That this person became a manager with such a low level of maturity and respect for others sums up their attitudes toward workers.
