A lot of alcoholism and people working with hangovers.
Support from management
I am sure that this particular job had the worse management of anywhere I've worked. They don't believe in on-boarding or training of new employees. They employ the "sink or swim" policy. As well as the "my way or the highway" attitude of late.
There is a man in my department who would pass gas while sitting in his work space. Everybody saw it. When reported to the managers, they did nothing and scolded me for saying anything. Asking my immediate manger for help was not easy. She was rude and very unhelpful. (unless you were one of the favored).
Freedom to work independently
I never saw this myself, but they used to do this.
My immediate manager had no communication skills to speak of. She was good at speeling and venting, but not much else. The upper management...I don't even know if they spoke English.
Attitude towards older colleagues
A little bit of discrimination I saw, but how can you prove that?
Overall compensation for your work
I wasn't paid well, and later found out that my co-workers were paid even less than I was. AFter being there for a year I learned that raises were unheard of, not just in our department, but across the board in all departments. In other companies my line of work has a pay rate of $25 per hour.
Office / Work Environment
There is an employee who works in the room with me, she has almost nothing to do except one thing, that is a month end task. So for the rest of the month she sits at her desk and stares at everyone, or gossips with her friend who was my "manger" (calling her even a supervisor would be a stretch of my imagination). Playing favorites is the norm there. Some of the employees are nice. But on the whole, the management makes a bad impression. I am still wondering how a person is allowed to stay employed at this company when she had almost no work to do.
I could ask for and get time off if needed. But rarely felt comfortable about it. Company has no paid vacation.
Can't say much about that.
Construction Document Manager has a Jekyll and Hyde personality. I am sure it is due to being an alcoholic. So this caused a problem. Instead of actually being normal, he was very inconsistent in his daily mood swings. One would never know whether he was in a bad mood or a good mood.
I was almost drowned at work due to a leaking roof. My "manager" (if that is what she is still calling herself), just sat there and did nothing. Only after the ceiling caved in did she move me. The roof was never fixed.
The only challenge was the bad management and their strange was of supervising. Some have DUI's on their criminal record. And they make terrible managers, due to their personalities as alcoholics.
Inclusive / Diverse
There are mostly Asian employees. As they work for almost nothing. Upper management are from India. This would explain why there are no raises given.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get rid of the managers in the Hyperlinking department. Implement on the job training and treat the employees better by giving them raises. This company needs an overhaul. Some reform of morals would be a major help. Stop hiring alcoholics and people with DUI's on their criminal record. As they make terrible managers, due to their personalities.
What I like about the company
The 401K and the bonuses. These things did not compensate for the low pay and terrible managers.
What I dislike about the company
Hands down, the poor pay and the low morale. Also extremely bad management. Abusiveness that goes unchecked.
