Company Culture

This company is new and has absorbed the cultures of multiple companies. Understandably, this is a difficult task. All things considered, this company has done an admirable job compared to others I have worked for.

Support from management

As a large company, the management has many layers. As a nonprofit the management is friendly and inviting for the most part.

Freedom to work independently

Employees are free to work independently but within child care licensing requirements.

Internal Communication

Communication is frequent. E-mails and visits from management occur regularly. They have a committee of staff which are elected at each location to help make decisions and provide input.

Gender Equality

Employees are made up of about 90% females and 10% males. Females are represented all they way up to key Director positions.

Career Development

Company will pay for lots of training and CDA if you need it including renewal.

Overall compensation for your work

This company pays more than any other child care business I know of.

Environmental Friendliness

Helping children and families makes for a friendly atmosphere.

Work-Life Balance

Work daytime hours and have over 40 days of paid time off. This provides for stress breaks and family life.

Company Image

Company is new and building image.

Job Security

The company is well funded. I feel secure in my job.

Handicapped Accessibility

Each location is compliant with ADA and inclusive of all. It is stressed at each level.

Workplace Safety

Safety is part of the company culture.

Challenging Work

Depending on the day the challenge can be from 1 - 10.

Inclusive / Diverse

Employees are from very diverse backgrounds and the classrooms are representative of the cities they are located in.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Keep working hard to change lives. Impact will come.

What I like about the company

Family friendly, lots of benefits, good pay for the industry, compliant with regulations, helping the community.

What I dislike about the company

Nothing.

Company Culture

There is gossip, backstabbing, degrading of co-workers. Teachers subjected to physical and verbal abuse from students and staff.

Support from management

Absolutely none. In fact, it feels as though they go out of their way to make it more difficult in the classroom. There are no policies in place to protect staff from false accusations made by parents or students.

Teamwork

This depends on the center. Some have good teamwork, some do not. Upper management is not willing to work with those on the “front lines” at all.

Freedom to work independently

Policies and procedures are restrictive. Teachers cannot teach the way they want/need to. The students miss out.

Internal Communication

E-Mails with entire new curriculums are sent with no notice and no explanation. Payroll systems are changed with no notice that your check won’t be received on time. Employees are notified that the insurance they’ve already paid for will no longer be available for three months/year months after open enrollment has closed. Students are suddenly dropped from the program without informing teachers.

Gender Equality

Men make a minimum of 20% more than women who do the same job, and often do it noticeably better.

Overall compensation for your work

Do NOT get paid enough for all the work I do. Have been with company 5 years and not received raise aside from cost of living adjustment of 1%, which is no longer offered.

Work-Life Balance

Teachers are not supposed to work off the clock, but everyone knows they must to complete everything that is required of them. I see center directors not get home until after 10:00 because they are required to babysit board members’ children.

Workplace Safety

No “real” policies in place to protect from shooter or angry parent. Some buildings are old and management will not pay for upgrades to make them safe.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Stop the trickle down. Support and PAY staff from the ground up. Stop trying so hard to look like this agency Is the brightest and best and care for the classrooms who have had 6 teachers in one school year. Actually BE good at this job and the reputation will follow. And for Christ’s sake, either stop preaching that AEL works to end poverty in the state or pay people more than poverty wages! Give raises on a regular basis. Pay fairly! Why do the men make more?

What I like about the company

The friends I have made, the good I have done, snow days & Christmas break

What I dislike about the company

Will not match 401k

Unfair pay

Loss of insurance

Unsupportive policies/communication

No breaks or meal periods for teachers (eating cafeteria food with 20 kids cannot be considered a lunch break)

PTO blackout dates

I’m sure I’ll be fired if they find out that I wrote this very honest review.
