- Arlington County Sheriff’s Office02.Feb 2017
The culture of this agency is horrible. The morale is at its lowest and employees are being worked to the bone, while upper management gets to go home early and have time with their families. The top upper management has long checked out mentally and will not go against the Sheriff to make the proper changes so people suffer.
Support from management
Support from management is also at an all time low. Directives come from above regarding different matters, so even if you are right, if they so you are not you are not.
Teamwork however, is very high. And that is because the line staff does all the work and they have to rely on each other to make things happen.
Freedom to work independently
Too much micro management , the only autonomy are the people they wish to give it to.
Communication is also bad here. Because they contridict themselves so much, you have a hard time getting the right answers, especaially in regards to overtime.
More females are being promoted now, whether they are qualified are not.
Attitude towards older colleagues
They are allowing the newer people to get positions and letting the veterans rot in the their careers, but even the younger people don't stay long once they see how things work there.
Career development is not fair across the board for everyone.
Overall compensation for your work
You will be paid handsomely for what you do. So if you need a check to provide for your family, you will be fine. You just won't have the time or energy to enjoy the fruit of your labors
They are a green facility.
Work life balance is horrible here, and always has, but it is at it's worst now. Employees are forced to work extra days every month, and supervisors keep changing the schedules or giving their favorite people the best days off, and you can get mandated to work even if you have worked several days in a row already.
There is no job security here. They fire some people they should actually give a second chance to, and keep those who have done things that are not fitting for a law enforcement officer to do, but have still made rank. They are horrible when it come to decision making and treating people fairly.
Because so many employees are working hard, it is making the facility unsafe because if you have to go hands on with someone you don't have the energy to defend yourself properly.
The work is very challenging here. Extremely challenging!
Inclusive / Diverse
We have a diverse workforce.
Suggestions for improvement
- A new Sheriff with better management that can speak up for the employees.
What I like about the company
What I dislike about the company
Everything else, beside the training and pay. This is a bad place to work.
