- Arthur Murray Dance Studio30.Dec 2015
There was a lot of misleading being done. The employee handbook always had changes if we ever actually used it to have some kind of rights while there. The supervisors did not commend or motivate us. If anything that wasn't sugar coated was said we were told we needed more passion.
Support from management
They would set a target goal of a specific number of students to teach. The reward would be a bonus on our check. When we would meet that goal, they would suddenly change the rules, not congratulate us, and change their mind on the "bonus" we worked hard for over a month to try and win. It was not very motivating to me as an employee that my superiors backed out on workplace incentives that they set out for us.
I technically worked at two different studios for the same company. This is the way the Las Vegas Arthur Murray is set up. The West Side studio was very united. But, very separate from the East side studio.
Freedom to work independently
I was hired as a dance instructor. I was trained, and given exactly what I was supposed to do. The reality of the situation of it was I worked as an Admin/Teacher/Maid for the studio with no extra pay. They also kept us later than scheduled and called us in earlier with no extra pay.
Having 4 bosses communication was the biggest thing that needed work. They never talked to each other and we would take the brunt of it if we did job that one of them did not want us to do.
There are equal opportunities for both men and women.
Attitude towards older colleagues
The staff was mostly young. There was no problems with older employees.
I believe in a different Franchise yes. Not this particular studio.
Overall compensation for your work
They do not pay enough for the amount of work that they expect. They do not provide benefits.
Office / Work Environment
The studio was in great condition.
They are socially aware. They decided to make their own way regardless.
There was no work life balance. Once I mentioned that I miss my son and they said that they are my family. I told them my husband is uncomfortable with my hours and they said that he needs to be more supportive of my career. They did a lot of peer pressuring for hours. They did not support vacation time.
Most people that I know that worked for this specific company do not have a good image of this company. I do not.
As long as you are on contract you have a job.
They do not provide anything for disabled employees.
I never felt accomplished there. They were never happy with anything.
Inclusive / Diverse
They are very stuck in their ways. No outside opinions whatsoever.
Suggestions for improvement
- They need to commend the instructors do good. Give them a proper work life balance.
What I like about the company
I love the dance studio atmosphere. It is a beautiful studio with amazing students. The thing that brightens your day is being able to make the students feel great about themselves.
What I dislike about the company
I am mainly not happy with the owners. There is little to no communication between the four of them. When they are around they bring lots of stress. There was a calmer environment in the studio when they were not there. Overall I love the company Arthur Murray. This specific Franchise needs some growth in management.
