Company Culture

Culture is all about cost savings and not about safety or staff high burnout due to work overload

Support from management

Management is very disconnected from immediate needs of its front line care giving staff both clinical and non clinical staff

Teamwork

Co workers are tight due to management 's unwillingness to support staff or listen and make changes that supports staff's workload

Internal Communication

Too many emails and not enough reaching out to address immediate staff concerns

Gender Equality

Doctors are allowed to talk down to female RNs in front of med students

Attitude towards older colleagues

Lots of older employees at work place

Career Development

Should allow for Free CEU on line like competing hospital system does

Overall compensation for your work

Raises just every 3rd year while competitor gives 2% raises yearly for past 8 years

Office / Work Environment

Often too hot or too cold

Work-Life Balance

Bogged down with processes and adds to stress of front line staff, often stay over scheduled time due to demands placed on staff by administrators

Company Image

Not proud but rather disillusioned

Workplace Safety

Not enough staff for high aquity patients

Challenging Work

Too much charting to do on patients and managing doing processes that take away front line staff from doing patient care

Inclusive / Diverse

Very diverse workforce

Suggestions for improvement

  • Better computer software that is user friendly and not cumbersome to use. Enough front line staff when aquity is high. Managers and administrators that listen to their employees and be open to make changes that employees who know the unit work flow suggest.

What I like about the company

The people that work there are very caring and dedicated to the patients they serve. The pay is decent and 401-k match is nice

What I dislike about the company

I disapprove of the mindset of Profit over safety. I disapprove of the arctic computer system and infrastructure that makes an RNs job harder to do. Management not understanding or not caring that work flow imbalances especially with over burdening nurses with too much charting and redundant charting and giving too much responsibilities to nurses for processes that management should do (Acquity in Kronos and White Board communications) which detract RNs from doing important patients careresponsibilities. Antiquated equipment (vital machine...Bld pressure, etc) that should be connected directly to E-care charting and should not have to be added manually by front line staff in chart later. Unrealistic RN to patient ratios. Should be acquity based! And have extra float staff on hand at all times to cover when needed due to higher acquity levels...seldom if at all does the unit I worked had ability to call in extra staff when patient care was higher and regular staffing matrix was not sufficient. Often if not most of the time(90%) due to poor staffing and high acquity RNs forgo breakage to keep unit safe and to do all the charting and processes expected by management. Management at least in my unit completely disconnected from helping staff on floor. It feels demoralizing when management is so detached from helping staff with hands on approach when unit acquity is high. Managers should on occassion take a couple patients to chart on or pass meds. That never happens on my unit. Never. It should be apart of Managers job description to help with patient care when acquity is high and RNs need support.

Company Culture

Popularity contest. If your not in the 'in' crowd you fail miserably

Support from management

Have one advocate and one that hates me. Guess which one I have to answer too

Teamwork

They encourage this for employees they have hired on, any employee that has been grandfathered in to new management. They secretly want to leave to fill in their own team. New hires are treated as VIP

Freedom to work independently

If you fail they breath down your shoulder, get the task done they forget you exists

Internal Communication

Communication occurs less often, not at all, or last minute

Gender Equality

Woman do succeed int his profession

Attitude towards older colleagues

They have no choice but to apprecate them.

Career Development

They offer CNA courses

Overall compensation for your work

Pay is way too diverse and lob sided. Again if your a new hire. Your benefit more than a veteran employee

Office / Work Environment

Computers old and always HOT!

Environmental Friendliness

Residents lead the way in recycling.

Work-Life Balance

They are trying, but many barriers they need to tear down first

Company Image

I find it difficult to navigate in this working environment. I want to succeed, but they don't seem to care a whole about me. Hard to be proud of that

Job Security

Nope

Handicapped Accessibility

It's a senior nursing care facility. I will let you figure that one out.

Workplace Safety

Training is required to handle all things needed to work here

Challenging Work

They filled me to the brim with task, and after they replace me they removed those task for the next person. Setting up for failures

Inclusive / Diverse

I'm a trans woman and feel it's hard for me to fit in here. The popularity environment makes it difficult to tell if I ever could

Suggestions for improvement

  • Equal pay- level the playing field reward years of serviceHad HR- there needs to be an on-site HR representative so all matter could be treated equally without favoritism.Add more CNAs- create softer flow in there work load. Decrease stress in that department.Eliminate activities positions to add to clinical move to all staff activities program. Make social worker position a duel social worker/ activities director

What I like about the company

I was happy to get a different outlook of life and serving the residents. It was the most rewarding experience. If I could take away everything and just focus on them. The job would be worth more than gold

What I dislike about the company

I do not appreciate how new management takes more pride in the people they hired instead of inherited. I was effect very negatively from pay to co-worker relationships. I fell behind where it was hard to catch up. I worked hard to get to where I was at and I depend on my job. It effected me mentally. Leading to depression and anxiety. If the company wants to build a comfortable successful environment. They need to focus on equality.

Company Culture

Leadership is unapproachable and shows no concern for the employees working for them. Leadership cowers in fear of the Ascension Healthcare senior leadership in St. Louis and then do nothing to shield individual contributors from Ascension Healthcare's poor decisions.

Support from management

Most managers do not support their employees. They do little to direct the efforts of their employees. They do not encourage their employees to grow. The good managers get smart and leave to find better jobs at more progressive healthcare companies. The bad ones remain as part of the "good ol' boy" network and become dinosaurs.

Teamwork

Leadership in general does not encourage teamwork amongst their employees. Instead, leadership often pits one employee against another in an attempt to exhibit power over their working conditions. Teamwork does take place at the individual contributor leval because they tend to huddle together to support each other.

Freedom to work independently

Most work is independent because there is little direction from management.

Internal Communication

Major changes in policies and procedures made by Ascension Healthcare are routinely not communicated down to the individual contributors who are tasked with carrying out the new policies and procedures. Communications usually stop at the Ascension Texas C-Suite.

Career Development

There is no career development for procurement or contract management positions because those positions are being moved to Ascension Healthcare corporate headquarters in St. Louis.

Company Image

Although Ascension Texas has a pretty rosy image in the community at large, internally there is a lot of complaining about poor management and lack of opportunities.

Job Security

Much of the procurement and contract management activities currently taking place at Ascension Texas is being moved to the Ascension Healthcare corporate headquarters in St. Louis. Eventually, all that will be left at Ascension Texas will be low-level supply chain clerks and specialized contract managers (who will either be mid-level procurement managers or lawyers in the Legal department).

Challenging Work

With more and more of the procurement and contract management responsibilities being moved to the Ascension Healthcare corporate headquarters in St. Louis, local Ascension Healthcare employees generally only do the scut work.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Replace Ascension Texas' senior leadership, followed by the entrenched middle management.

What I like about the company

I like the fact that Ascension Texas performs vital and necessary work for the underserved people in the community.

What I dislike about the company

Ascension Texas should treat its employees better, especially the individual contributors.
