I love my job in Medical Records, but other places in the hospital can get catty and very competitive.
Support from management
Yes, like I have stated, my managers and bosses have given me everything and every chance to continue working for them dispite my disabilities.
We must be kind to one another, but if we have problems we deal with that person first. If we can’t come to an agreement then we get the boss or manager involved.
Freedom to work independently
They are very strict on timelines and that they are met. So when they see you behind they will enlist a group of people who need extra work to get you back where you should be. Independently as in working from home would be another one. They don’t trust employees to work from home even if it would mean more got done and that more people who want to work from home are able.
My bosses are always working with me especially since I am disabled and still trying to work. Whenever I think I have to quit working due to illness, they always find a way to make it work for me and make sure things like FMLA, accommodations, and days off are approved regardless if I have PTO or not! They also reward my successes and it makes me feel appreciated.
The company is like 80% woman. We all get equal opportunities though.
Attitude towards older colleagues
I work with a lot of older women and I have not heard complaints.
Yes! Everyone is expected to grow. They will train you and give you what you need. They will pay a certain amount towards your loans for school as well.
Overall compensation for your work
I like to think so.
Office / Work Environment
There could be more disabled parking spaces just for employees, buttons to open doors, and better ramps.
We separate everything to be recycled and in my department we only work with vendors who supply recyclable supplies.
I work 8-4:30 so I am able to work hours I prefer and go out after.
Nothing bad to say honestly.
Better ramps, more door buttons, bigger bathrooms for disabled employees, parking spaces just for disabled employees.
We train monthly and offer opportunities to learn what to do in dangerous situations hands on instead of just online.
I’m on a timeline for things more than other people. If I get behind, the hospital gets behind.
Inclusive / Diverse
My bosses always give me time to better improve workflow. We also are diverse in hiring employees of different cultural and race backgrounds. There is also a fair share of employees with disabilities working with this employer, one of those employees being me!
Suggestions for improvement
- More disability parking for disabled employees specifically! And ones that have more room for wheelchairs to get in and out of the car. More buttons for the doors. Bigger bathrooms for employees so employees with wheelchairs can use staff bathrooms. Better and more ramps. A lot of the ramps are steep and hard to roll up unless you have a good start, someone to push you, or your chair has power.
What I like about the company
I started this job in December of 2018 with unknown illness that I’ve had but escalated or flared up in July 2018. When I started working for this group I didn’t realize how bad physically I would get and how much extra help or care I would need. My bosses have worked with me through it all and have made exceptions to help me succeed and continue working for them. They have helped me to sign up for accommodations, FMLA, and help me make the work place more accessible for me and others like me. When I became wheelchair bound, I was worried that I would be fired. I was reminded that using a mobility aid does not change how great of an employee I am. They have helped to do everything they can to make it easier for me to stay and work for them. I’m proud that I work for this company!
What I dislike about the company
Well... the whole contraceptives insurance. Working for a Catholic run hospital is nice but they don’t cover contraceptives due to that belief. I don’t personally use them, but for the woman that do, they already have enough children or it helps with other things like, mood, acne, period regulation, etc.
