Support from management

Management blames each other and when that doesn't work they blame their people.

Teamwork

Used to work together - now people are just in it for self

Freedom to work independently

Even professionals are micro-managed

Internal Communication

All lies - cant believe a word anyone in management says

Gender Equality

See above.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Other than the top where everyone is very old or acts like they are - they don't want people who are older.

Career Development

people who know people or are related to the top managers get promoted. But they get the jobs and don't know how to do them.

Overall compensation for your work

Not even worth the gas to get there

Office / Work Environment

like being in jail.

Environmental Friendliness

obviously they waste a lot.

Work-Life Balance

The worst of any company anywhere. Routine required OT and professionals have to work 6-7 days a week. 6 is required.

Company Image

So many complaints from customers and the service people literally hang up on customers so they don't get yelled at for long calls

Job Security

Constantly shutting down with no pay and get rid of more people than they hire.

Handicapped Accessibility

Not even possible. They don't want handicapped people. When I worked there I never even saw one.

Workplace Safety

Always in trouble with the government on this one and the safety teams hate the employees and if you are on their list they will drug test you again and again - with someone - not always even the same sex watching you

Challenging Work

Impossible expectations and no goals.

Inclusive / Diverse

Routinely discriminates unless you are white male. Likes Hispanics for manufacturing. If you worked there before and want to come back - they won't hire you if you ever were injured on job.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Reduce paper usage drastically and now. Get off of early 2000s tech and upgrade to tablets and a better point if sale system. Everything should be digital now. When a change is done, our system should be able to handle and implement it immediately. We've had 3changes in sales tax rates for our state in the last year and we constantly have to go back and fix it. This is costing salespeople their income. The system should be automatically charging the correct sales tax, period. With a digital record of sales, it would lessen the amount of time I have to hunt through files of sales for various issues. I can just goto the computer and pull it up

What I like about the company

Met some wonderful people from sales staff to customers. Each day is different and there are a lot of opportunities to grow

What I dislike about the company

Employees should be given a weekend off every month. It will lessen stress and give them time to get away from the job. Allow enough staffing to do so.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Better marketing.. TV and radio adds. The newspaper doesn’t bring ppl in. Private sales we have to bring customers back are no better than what we normally run. Lack of communication, changes are made and not communicated.

What I like about the company

The people you work with in the stores generally get along and become a family. Working long hours to make a good living. The family that runs the stores is working hard to improve and update as possible as of recent. But don’t seem to grasp the changes in the world of retail. The competitive market and the ability to search our products with local competitors to make sure customers get the best deal. But hard to compete with online stores who don’t have the overhead or knowledge of the products or back the products with a one year in home warranty that Ashley Furniture offers their customers!

What I dislike about the company

Marketing and the Ashley Furniture homestore website and other programs are not easy to operate or run slow. The ability to keep stock on merchandise or get merchandise in on time for customers.. especially new product! Being competitive. Sometimes our in store sales don’t meet online promotions, other competitors.. etc
