Suggestions for improvement
- If I could change one thing, it would be to get consistent leadership. People have not stayed in place long enough to develop the plant to its true capacity.
What I like about the company
There are unique services, like special parking for new moms, and a community room for nursing moms. There is also a nurse on staff, free preventative care through a health fair once per year, and free onsite flu shots.
Personally, I have had great experiences with first line managers who have allowed me to work independently, and have supported me through family emergencies like when my mother was diagnosed with cancer, I was able to arrange a flexible work schedule to be there for her treatments.
Also, I feel really good about making medicines that have saved the lives of sick babies, presidents, and people with severe asthma. My company posts the experiences of fellow employees with our medications, as well as asks for our opinion and engages us on our opinions- truly taking things like culture surveys seriously. I would highly recommend working for AstraZeneca. I have no desire to leave or change jobs. The process engineers I work for are great, and I really enjoy the interaction I have with other departments.
What I dislike about the company
My site has grown rapidly in the past five years, and with that- there has been the turmoil of moving from a small standalone drug manufacturer to part of a global network. We have had 4 plant heads in 7 years. This has caused a lot of upheaval - a lot of senior management has come and gone, and the stability of department structure has not been a luxury we are afforded. The plant manufacture schedule changes a bit excessively- but with that- we have developed into a team of folks who can manage the flexibility of a pilot plant at commercial manufacture scale- and very unique position in the biopharm space.
