Overall I think Avera is a great company to work for, however I think some departments really need a lot of improvement.
An office full of snotty ladies of all ages. Nearly everyone would talk poorly about others behind their backs. Morning line-up every day was the only time I ever felt like I was working with a team.
Support from management
Management was terrible and not very supportive. Very slow coming with the positive praise, but when you had negative criticism you were told by more than one manager.
They encourage this, but it was not done.
Freedom to work independently
They did trust us to do that, but then we would be scolded for not doing something correctly even when we had never been taught that particular job duty.
Management VERY POOR communicators. They would literally send out an office wide email regarding a policy violation (such as dress-code), yet they would never actually approach the one person who was violating that policy directly.
Yes, but you have to seek them out yourself.
Overall compensation for your work
We were paid below the national median for our positions. Mine was approximately $2 per hour less than the national median.
Office / Work Environment
The building they had us in had ZERO windows, ventilation was terrible, temp was always way too cold or way too hot. Ceiling leaked. And, again, there were NO WINDOWS.
Flex time is nice to have, but they are very strict about how much, how often, and what time of day.
There were at least 3 employees that seriously injured themselves simply walking to or from their car in the parking lot. Curbs and sidewalks needed repair very badly and it was never done.
Mostly the same work day to day, but management would often rearrange the work-flow to let different people try different clinics.
Suggestions for improvement
- Again: the management. If they shook that area of the department up I am sure they would see growth and success more rapidly.
What I like about the company
There were a few employees that were very kind-hearted and understanding and nice people. I really enjoyed getting to know them.
What I dislike about the company
The management in this office really failed their employees. They were not clear with expectations, and when month-end was close their demeanor and attitude would get very cross. When you made a mistake you were often corrected by multiple managers. Praise, on the other hand, hardly ever came unless it was a birthday or anniversary that had sent them a reminder.
