Poor culture that enables bullying, and constant finger pointing.
Support from management
Managers lead by fear, and do not offer and support. Management team lacks succession plan, is diminished, and does not listen to employee suggestions.
Everyone is on their own, and teamwork is non-existent. Employees fear their jobs because of consistent negative feedback.
Freedom to work independently
Ranked as a two because the level of autonomy is the end result of upper management not knowing what direction to lead the team or what it takes to get the job done. You will often be forced to get the job done with minimal feedback or direction.
Management team does not work together, and each division has its own agenda of goal that does not support the overall success of the company.
Succession plan and development plans are lacking for key positions and employees.
Overall compensation for your work
You have to really fight for your worth, and will always be asked to take on more responsibility than you are compensated for. Bonus structure is competitive.
Office / Work Environment
Very hostile and fast pace environment. With regards to temperature control, ventilation, and lighting the front offices are moderate. The shop however, has stagnant airflow, temperatures can exceed 100 degrees during the summer, and lighting is insufficient for 2nd shift associates.
Materials and oils are recycled. Not enough effort on paperless business system yet.
Upper management will scold associates and mid level managers for not working 7-day work schedules, and will make them feel guilty for taking any time off. Expect to work 65-85 hour weeks consistently.
I was proud to work for the company prior to upper management changes.
Employee turnover is extremely high (including management), and job security has become an issue throughout the entire company.
Great product lines and processes throughout the company. Work is challenging and interesting, and you will learn a considerable amount from your peers, subordinates, and team.
Suggestions for improvement
- My advise to current management team is: Respect your team, and praise those that help you with their hard work! Set development plans for your team. Have a succession plan for management team. Be more realistic with your objectives, and OWN your own deficiencies and shortcomings. Be more strategic and lead by example. Be more open minded with employee suggestions, and stop leading through fear.
What I like about the company
Bonus Structure is competitive but fair for efforts throughout the quarter.
Great associates and peers to work with and learn from.
What I dislike about the company
Exempt employees are expected to work no less than 70-90 hours per week. Job security has been used as a tool to manipulate associate schedules.
Several key positions in management and in the shop had remained unfilled due to a lack of candidates for over one year. Upper management eventually eliminated these positions as they felt they were no longer necessary since those roles were being made up for with additional OT.
Turnover among associates and management is alarmingly high.
Upper management does not implement succession planning or offer development or growth plans. You will likely be stuck within the role you were hired in unless you are willing to take on additional work without compensation.
There is minimal effort and emphasis for Continuous Improvement. True issues within the company are not properly identified, and process changes are not implemented resulting in repetitive mistakes.
The vision and analysis of a burn-down plan is lacking, and all employees are asked to work tirelessly without any time frame or analysis of what is expected to meet or exceed goals.
New Upper Management team has zero respect for any employee, often harassing, discriminating against (religion, health, gender, age, etc.), and publicly humiliating associates and managers with baseless accusations due to personal shortcomings as leaders. How can any strategic vision be implemented when the entire management team is assembling parts for a majority of their work week?
