What I like

Positive work environment. Many opportunities for growth and advancement. Quality, caring staff.

What I dislike

It’s gotten a little better, but there are many days that we are under staffed, which is stressful on those who are working that day.

Suggestions for improvement

We need more staff on every unit on a daily basis. I understand that it would cost the company more, but it would lower the stress level of our employees and enable us to have the time to provide an even better quality of care for our patients.

What I like

Company events. Great out reach events as well.

What I dislike

That they treat their employees down the list and seem to prioritize professions on accolades and what department they are a part of.

Suggestions for improvement

Be fair across all professions. Better explain the business side of it to employees so we know why we are changing what we are changing. I’d also like to see upper management do our job for a week so they know exactly what they’re asking of us.

Company Culture

My coworkers are mostly good and build one another up. Not the case with management.

Work-Life Balance

They do a great job at helping

Teamwork

Part of our mission

Attitude towards older colleagues

Sometimes it seems they try to get rid of them to help clear money for budget

Challenging Work

Working with really sick people can challenge your skills

Internal Communication

Hospital is good with it

Freedom to work independently

Micromanagement is rough

This Hospital is horrible. They do not put patients or employees first. The bottom dollar is what governs the facility.

What I dislike

Management is terrible, Human Resources is terrible, Rushing employees out of the door before they get one minute of overtime

Suggestions for improvement

Have a solid whistleblower process so that employees can be protected and be able to alert administrators of wrongdoings without retliation

Work-Life Balance

They are very stingy when it comes to overtime and it was never hard for me to take time off or call in sick

Overall compensation for your work

No their time clock is weird and cheat you out of valuable minutes

There are but only 3 main hospitals in the Bakersfield area. I believe Bakersfield Memorial Hospital is by far the worst

Former EmployeeWorked at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.

What I like

The best part was the free healthcare every year they try to eliminate that benefit from the union. The pay was competitive to other hospitals. The cafeteria allows employees to buy food through payroll deduction. They also have free tutoring and mental health doctors for employees needing an ear to listen

What I dislike

I disapprove of the strict no overtime policy, if you take an issue to hr it is not kept confidential and management will be informed if you have an issue with management. I really dislike how to receive pay for holidays you must subtract from vacation time

Suggestions for improvement

Most important of all management must be held to the same criteria as payroll employees

Company Culture

The worse hospital I ever worked for. From the treatment of their employees to how well they are prepared to care for their patients

Company Image

I’m proud of the work I did regardless of how terrible the management was

Work-Life Balance

No they finagle the schedule so that you work the most hours possible without receiving overtime

Career Development

Yes you further your education and grow with the hospital

Handicapped Accessibility

I believe they make handicapped a priority

Overall compensation for your work

Environmental Friendliness

Workplace Safety

I do not believe the hospital does

Teamwork

Management is horrible

Attitude towards older colleagues

There are a number of older employees treated with equal opportunities

Support from management

Management was horrendous I never felt comfortable being in the same room management

Office / Work Environment

When I first started working at BMH there was a water slip hazard that had been there I don’t know how long. And the overhead speaker was not working. I do not know how important information was given to employees

Challenging Work

They combined departments and have employees doing jobs they were never trained or went to school for

Internal Communication

Information is usually made by world of mouth

Gender Equality

Women are treated fairly as are the men

Freedom to work independently

You must notify an employee every time you go to the restroom

Former EmployeeWorked at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital until 2013.

What I like

I like the ability to work on my own and not have a supervisor or manager watching over my shoulder. I enjoyed my coworkers and peers.

What I dislike

When I was injured due to their failure to keep a safe work environment I was let go and told they could not work with my new limitations due to that injury.

Suggestions for improvement

Work better with employees that are assets to the company when something unfortunate happens. Make them feel like a person rather then a number.

Workplace Safety

I was injured when sprinklers were left on over night in middle of January causing sidewalks entrances to facility to ice over.
