The constant mantra from those who have been there for years is "you have to accommodate to the culture and you have no idea who I can call upon to make your life miserable".
Support from management
Totally non-existent and often times appeared to be intentionally vindictive to those who would criticize decisions that were neither critically made nor upon empirical evidence to the contrary.
Stove-piping and taking advantage of others work was common to the exclusion of those who actually did the work.
Freedom to work independently
Extraordinary cases of micromanagement to the point that it reflect a hostile work environment.
Management expected upward communications to be open and honest but reacted to that in a totally negative fashion and often at a personal level of criticism.
Senior male engineers seemed to intentionally ignore and or isolate female engineers and when tasked to mentor others, the senior consultant engineers would make it so the person could not be successful.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Huge amount of discrimination if you are an outsider but a recognized expert by colleagues and former work associates.
Overall compensation for your work
Moderate to less than moderate salary for work demanded and performed.
Office / Work Environment
Worst layout and office facilities I worked in over the past 15 years.
Management and leaders cared less about the environment particularly noise and crowding even when suitable buildings and office space was available.
Provided excellent chances to allow for outside work time but often at the expense of piss poor prior planning on the part of managers and leaders.
External customers often asked why and how could the Ball Brothers have allowed this kind of culture to continue!
Unless you are part of the in crowd and long time crony group member, there is no job security.
Many of the facilities were equipped with capability but not sufficient to be effective for access to work location or access to creature comfort facilities.
Only addressed when someone complained or was injured. Very passive safety oversight and implementation.
Unless one was part of the in crowd, challenging work was being able to stay busy to avoid loss of charge numbers.
Inclusive / Diverse
Very few minorities in lead or management positions.
Suggestions for improvement
- Remove the leaders and managers from those positions where they have homesteaded because of their association with those in charge.
What I like about the company
The opportunity to work on newer products.
What I dislike about the company
Management and leadership fails to do the classic roles they are assigned and paid to do.
