The Alzheimer's Association is the world's leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's care, support and research. More than 5 million Americans today struggle with Alzheimer's disease, and that number is expected to increase significantly. To grow awareness and financial support, Bankers Life organizes the annual Forget Me Not Days®, a nationwide fundraising campaign now in its 12th year. Since 2003, we've helped raise more than $3.7 million for the Alzheimer's Association.

Meals on Wheels Chicago

Bankers Life believes all individuals, especially homebound seniors and people with disabilities, should have the opportunity to live independently and with dignity in their own homes. That's why we proudly support Meals on Wheels Chicago. For more than 25 years, this organization has supported programs offering needy residents more choices in their care and living arrangements, despite their age, income or ability.

Military Warriors Support Foundation

Bankers Life partners with the Military Warriors Support Foundation to help combat-wounded heroes and families as they transition to civilian life. Through Homes 4 Wounded Heroes, a financial mentoring program, six families each year are awarded mortgage-free homes. The three-year mentor relationship helps put military veterans on the path to a solid financial future.

Our commitment to continuing education inspired the creation of the Bankers Life Learning Network (BLN), which provides ongoing career growth through learning and industry best practices.

Other agents were willing to help, but lacked the same direction.

Level of Autonomy

Agents have to pay for their own leads, then you have to put up with people who have a negative view of Bankers, or have never heard of them.

Work-Life Balance

If you enjoy not having family time, this is the place for you. The managers were open about the free time they needed, but agents typically worked until 8 or 9 in the evening.

  • Fully trained in modern sales techniques and encourage employees to become advisors not agents. Also make it clear that you are not an employee and Bankers will demand every dime you made working group for them back when you leave

Suggestions for improvement

  • They know their flaws. It is unfortunately inherent in the business model and sales goals. Any recommendations I can make would only harm that model, since I fundamentally disagree with its execution.

I like about the employer

I learned that I am not a salesman.

I dislike about the employer

From the beginning, it was not clear that this was purely a marketing and sales job. Management gives the impression that call recipients have received detailed information about life/health insurance, which may or may not be true depending on where you are calling from, or at what time of year. On more than one occasion I was told that I should have recommended and pushed a sale that was not appropriate for my client.
