Conflicts between employees when things went bad and no incentive to do well or get ahead.
Support from management
When the goings are good credit is taken, when things went wrong (often) fingers were pointed.
Every man and woman for themselves. A culture of bullying and name calling and blame-storming is the grease that keeps this machine well oiled.
Freedom to work independently
Never a thing to do with higher up approval, higher education or not.
Absolutely no employment assessments or progress reports. As long as you weren't losing money you were doing OK. It gets tiring to be put down so often or not be able to perform at peak capacity.
A man's company, even women in the field are overlooked and replaced so a man can do the work. Crude references abound in and around the office.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Not many people stay that long, unsure how to answer this.
No advancement offered nor implied. Job hired on was for CAD Drafter, but company never had nor would ever buy CAD. Bait and switch.
Overall compensation for your work
No wage increases offered and no benefits either. No incentives to work harder or longer if there is no compensation.
Office / Work Environment
No hot water in the bathrooms to wash hands - the same for over 20 years. Leaking roof and heat off on weekends until Monday morning. No overtime paid ever - "bank it" and use for a later date.
Profit above all else. If one has to lie to support billing, that's what has to be done. Replace called-for materials for substandard.
No vacation at all, but time can be taken off pretty freely. Unpaid of course. No paid time off nor sick days.
Many of the employees felt stuck in their job, always on the lookout for another. The end of the day and Friday could never come fast enough.
I was always surprised that no one was ever fired and that the office hourly was steady employment. In the shop, if it were slow you got laid off.
No accessibility offered nor needed. No obstacles exist would someone who would need them find trouble working there.
Safety was lax, and no glasses worn with machinery nor ear protection with loud tools. Smoking was allowed in the shop area probably more as a benefit to the employees than a breaking of the fire safety.
I was proud to do a good job, but angry that others took credit. No challenge at this company - dead end work.
Inclusive / Diverse
No other ideas are supported. Employment subject to image, where one qualified candidate was rejected solely on her weight.
Suggestions for improvement
- Provide an honest product for an honest price and deliver the same promptly. Treat your employees as valued and they will work harder for you and the company's good.
What I like about the company
I was paid every Friday.
What I dislike about the company
Having to lie to customers as to why a project was delayed or fabricating pricing. I never liked being talked down to by someone with less education and I absolutely resented not working the position I was hired for.
