Company Culture

Safety is everybody concern although when the numbers grow, the impact is no longer the same

Most of us had been working together when there was no real size. As a team, we were rather strong

I was working as a support foreman. When supports ended, I was not offered another foreman position even after I had inquired about another position

Workplace Safety

This is always a concern with any of the construction companies. I broke my fibula near my ankle although it was not noted broken until three months afterwards. It had already healed although it was initially noted as a sprang ankle.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Every construction site has a system in getting things done. At times, the logistics of the material did not coincide with the resources available. In addition, I believe that many of us experienced hands should have been moved to the newer areas that was being constructed for we had experienced the hardships of it once before.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Dump Kronos and the workweek that end at 11 a.m. Friday. Look for ways to find out what can be done to make it a great place to work instead of finding excuses why things can't be made better. Be more transparent, and quit trying to spin everything.

What I like about the company

Safety is all the matters to senior management, but only in the sense that safety on site is a measurable metric. The company would have no problem having you drive through a snowstorm to get to work because it doesn't care about your safety in that situation. The company only promotes from within, which might sound great but in reality promotes a insular management culture that is totally out of touch with the 21st century. Senior management is overwhelming white and male. If you're not an engineer you're a second-class employee with limited opportunities. But even worse, you're treated like an inferior. Senior management just doesn't care about you.

What I dislike about the company

Have senior management live to the principles it preaches -- take responsibility, face facts brutally, and don't force employees to live with deficiencies. If something doesn't work, drop it and find something better. Hire more people of color, and promote more women to top engineering positions. Realize that for managers management skills are more important than engineering skills. Realize that non-engineers are just as intelligent as engineers. Start treating non-exempts with respect instead of treating them as second-class citizens.

Company Culture

Some GLE HR employees do not have a degree in dealing with people issues! They are untrained and are moved into these jobs merely out of luck and who they know rather than experience and SKILL. Some Leads are not good communicators and are lax about leading teams; they come to work, put on headphones, slouch low in chair and pretend they are busy, when they do act as a lead, incorrect direction is often given. Also, some leads fail to respond on weekends when their team mbrs try to contact them. During interviews, some Mgmt mislead and lie by stating that internal employees may move to other opportunities within the company by interviewing for them, however, if you are not part of the “CLICK”, GLE Mgmt prevents movement by lying about the position applied for OR you NEVER get a reply at all. People come to work un-prepared; leaving laptops and keyfobs for security access home, severely disabling their ability to do their jobs, others come in late daily for years with no recourse, some peers make their own hours because of tardiness among other humorous reasons.

Support from management

MGMT at the top level has great vision and direction for the company, however it appears they either are not aware of the GLE Mgmt issues or they have decided to turn the other cheek, allowing insufficient managers to slowly disintegrate their visions and values. When GLE Mgmt. and HR lie and abuse their authority, it tends to make the entire company look bad.

Teamwork

Most co-workers are great, however there is always one or two that tend to be difficult and have personalities that go against company values and covenants. Team comradery is much more apparent when GLE Mgmt and Leads are not around.

Freedom to work independently

Working independently and with a team is a great at this workplace although when GLE Mgmt including some Leads are not around, the team comradery is much more apparent.

Internal Communication

GLE Mgmt was aware of theft in the parking lot during working hours, however they failed to inform GLE employees of the safety issue that happened on more than one occasion. Some Leads give direction or provide important information to people close rather than the entire team and some Leads often do not communicate their schedule to team, among other company communication issues.

After several years, I only went to 2 training classes. One of which was mostly irrelevant to my work responsibilities.

The company scores low on the pay scale for the same types of positions in other companies.

Office / Work Environment

Work environment was closed in room with no windows, terrible lighting and sound acoustics were terrible. Extremely hard to hear anything. Sometimes a back flow of air would come in from outside, thus allowing cigarette smoke, gasoline fumes, cooking smells to enter the isolated room. The air conditioning was kept extremely low and being cold was normal in this room.

Company Image

I was proud when I landed this job, however after several years of learning the GLE Office culture and the presence of a "click", I dreaded going to work there every day.

Job Security

Company shows much movement in New Delhi India, going from 1 shift to 3 - 4 shifts, laid off many people at one US based site as well as laying off many people in GLE office.

Challenging Work

Most IT work is challenging!! I am extremely proud of my contribution to the IT Industry.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Clean house regarding GLE Mgmt and HR. Hire managers and leads that can do their jobs without discriminating against you if you are not in their "click", AND hire individuals that are experienced with dealing with human issues.
