Suggestions for improvement
- I believe that the overall climate among adults in my school lacks respect and that we need greater opportunity for professional relationships, social interaction, and collaboration. I think that greater flexibility in the professional learning offered would be one step toward this type of relationship development. I think that more opportunity to collaborate and more frequent, brief, whole staff meetings would also be key to improving the communication that allows for an open and understanding culture. Most importantly, I believe that increased visibility of and active support from our administration would embolden professionals to take calculated risks in our work and to feel strengthened and supported within our learning community.
What I like about the company
Because I am employed as a teacher and reading specialist in a Pennsylvania public school, the greatest joy of my job is working with and being a part of the lives of my students. Though I am sometimes frustrated by the broad decisions made by our administration, I have a reasonable degree of autonomy in my work, which I believe allows me to generally accommodate the needs of the unique learners entrusted to my care. In my classroom, I believe that my students feel safe, nurtured, and respected, as do I. The ability to create and maintain this environment allows me to truly connect with those in my classes so that I have a strong and healthy relationship with each of my students.
